The town lies between the Barycz and Orla rivers. Its historic buildings extend for about 450 meters between the rivers. Architectural traces and town history
The railway water tower was built in 1912 and is located on the grounds of Wąsosz railway station. Only its brick walls and a section of water pipe inside remain. A plaque dated November 20, 1960, commemorates the 670th anniversary of the granting of town rights to Wąsosz and the relocation of the castellany from Sądowel to Wąsosz. The plaque also dates the construction of the ducal castle to the 14th century and records that Piast dukes from Głogów, Oleśnica, and Legnica stayed there. The dates serve different purposes: 1912 is the year the water tower was built, while November 20, 1960, is the date of the plaque; the 14th century is the construction period attributed to the ducal castle. This keeps the construction year, commemorative date, and attributed construction period distinct.
Kayaking route and cycling route
Near the amphitheater in Wąsosz, you’ll find the starting point of the kayaking route on the Barycz and a boat rental offering kayaking equipment. If you plan to go kayaking, check before your trip whether the rental is currently available.
Another activity is the regional orange Barycz Valley cycling route, which passes through Wąsosz. The two options differ in activity and location: the kayaking starting point and rental are near the amphitheater, while the cycling route passes through town. This may help you decide whether you’re more interested in the kayaking route or a regional cycling route.
