The Vistula and Cycling Paths
The Czernichów municipality organizes an annual nationwide kayak trip on the Vistula from Czernichów to Kraków. Another point of reference for water travelers is the Upper Vistula Water Route: it runs from the ferry on the Vistula in Czernichów to the landing stage of the Kolejowy Klub Wodny in Kraków. These endpoints show that the waterways described connect Czernichów with Kraków, although they have different points of reference: one is the annual organized trip, the other a route with its named landing stages.
Experienced cyclists can complete the Blue Vistula Route in one hour without stopping. The Agricultural School and Architectural History
The Zespół Szkół Rolnicze Centrum Kształcenia Ustawicznego in Czernichów is named after Franciszek Stefczyk and is Poland’s oldest continuously operating agricultural school. The town’s history is also linked to Stefczyk: in the late 19th century, Galicia’s first savings and loan association began operating in Czernichów on the initiative of schoolteacher Dr. Franciszek Stefczyk. Stefczyk is the connection between the two: the institution and the historic founding offer two different perspectives on the area.
The listed manor complex by the agricultural school includes a 19th-century manor house and lamus, a teachers’ house, a power plant, farm buildings, and a perimeter wall with a gate. It also includes a landscape park designed by Alojzy Różeczka. The collection ranges from the manor house to buildings for the school and its operations, as well as the park. Those interested in architecture will find several components of a complex here, rather than just one historic building.
The stone Rosary Chapel of St. Lawrence in Czernichów was built in the second half of the 17th century. Parish priest Wawrzyniec Kamerer founded it as a burial chapel for the Rosary Confraternity. Its date of construction, founder and original function give the building a clear historical context.
