Cycling Route and Recreational Loop
The paved Velo SKAwina runs for more than 11 kilometres from the town of Skawina to Jaśkowice and connects to the Wiślana Trasa Rowerowa. It is also suitable for recreational cycling, walks and leisure activities. For cycle tourists, its length, the stated endpoints and its connection to the Wiślana Trasa Rowerowa are useful points of reference. The route is not only associated with cycling: walking is also one of its intended uses.
The Skawińskie Błonia offer a different option, with an 800-metre paved loop. It is suitable for running, inline skating, riding a scooter and cycling. This lets you choose between a route stretching for more than 11 kilometres and an 800-metre loop when considering what kind of activity suits your stay. Museum, Concerts and Getting Around
The Muzeum Regionalne in Skawina welcomes visitors to its exhibitions, which cover the history and folk-cultural heritage of the surrounding area. The monthly “Muzyczne Poniedziałki” concerts at the Pałacyk “Sokół” offer another cultural attraction. Sacred Buildings and Town History
The parish church of Saints Simon and Jude was founded by Kazimierz Wielki and most recently rebuilt in 1826. It houses a 17th-century image of Our Lady of Skawina, which is especially revered by the faithful. The church’s foundation, rebuilding and venerated image offer different perspectives on its history and religious significance.
Skawina is also home to a surviving Jewish synagogue dating from the early 20th century. Another historic site is the former hospital church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was founded in 1471 by Maciej Skawinka, Abbot of the Benedictines of Tyniec. The former hospital church houses the 16th-century Renaissance painting “Crucifixion”. The dates refer to different aspects of these sites: the church’s foundation and the period in which the painting was created.
The Pałacyk “Sokół” also has an earlier history: it was built between 1904 and 1906 on the site of a fortified castle. The castle was probably built during the reign of Kazimierz Wielki or shortly after his death. The uncertainty about the date applies to the castle; the stated construction period for the Pałacyk is 1904–1906. Alongside its concerts, the building thus combines a cultural attraction with its own historical background.
