Michałowice is distinguished by its manor-and-park complex, cycle routes and the Dłubnia River, a defining feature of the landscape. This gives you two different perspectives to consider when planning your visit: the architectural and commemorative history of the place, and routes whose course can be followed by reference to roads, the river and the ridge. The parish church and a cultural offering available by arrangement round out the picture of the area.

Manor history and commemorative tradition

The Dąbrowski Palace in Michałowice was built to a design by architect Teodor Talowski. The Neo-Romantic park was created at the same time, on the site of an older garden. The manor-and-park complex includes a manor house, a stable, a park and a ruined granary. The complex therefore brings together different elements: the manor house, agricultural buildings and landscaped grounds. The park’s creation also connects today’s grounds with an older garden.

Every year on 6 August, a march is held to commemorate the First Cadre Company’s visit to the manor in Michałowice. Afterwards, there is a gathering and refreshments in the manor gardens. The fixed date and historical occasion give this tradition a specific place in the area’s annual calendar.

Church and cinema in Michałowice

The parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland, was built in 1963. Bishop Karol Wojtyła consecrated it in September of that year. So, alongside the manor, a religious building with a precisely dated historical connection is another place to consider when exploring local history.

Za Rogiem Michałowice cinema arranges film screenings by request for groups, schools, kindergartens and institutions. If you would like to include a screening in your plans, it is available to these audiences by arrangement.

Cycle routes: distance and course

The green-marked Widokowy Cycle Route is 24.2 kilometres long in total; 13.2 kilometres of it run through the municipality of Michałowice. These figures help distinguish the entire route from the section within the municipality. The route leads into Michałowice along Podedworze Street and passes the manor-and-park complex on Dąbrowskich Street. It then follows Nad Dłubnią Street, crosses the Dłubnia River over a bridge and continues through meadows.

The Dłubnia Valley Cycle Route follows a different course. After the manor, it follows Nad Dłubnią Street and then climbs Koźlica Hill along Koźlica Street, reaching an elevation of 279 metres. It then descends to Masłomiąca. The named hill and the next destination offer a different way to orient yourself than the Widokowy Cycle Route’s total distance and section within the municipality.

Dłubnia Landscape Park and the wider landscape

Michałowice is one of six municipalities that lie partly within Dłubnia Landscape Park. Established in 1981, the park lies around the Dłubnia River and includes the Dłubnia Valley and the adjacent upland, along the stretch from the river’s sources near Trzyciąż to Raciborowice. Historic churches, manor houses and manor parks can be visited within the park. The landscape therefore extends beyond individual places, bringing together the river valley and the upland.

The landscape park also has chalk and limestone rock formations, as well as springs with fissure and karst water. These features are part of the wider park area and add geological points of interest to the roads, meadows and river crossing along the cycle routes described here. Michałowice thus offers concrete ways to explore cultural history and cycling, as well as a connection to the landscape of the surrounding municipality.
