Rąbkowa: Views and Local History
Accommodation in Rąbkowa
Rąbkowa combines a distinctive viewpoint on the Łososińska Route with local history dating back to 1400–1440. This gives you two different highlights to consider when planning your trip: views over the lake and mountain ranges, and a chapel in the centre of the village. The route’s waypoints also help you distinguish between excursions in the wider area.
The Łososińska Route and its viewpoints
At the 7.7 km point, the Łososińska Route climbs to a 470-metre-high hill above Tabaszowa. From there, the view takes in Lake Rożnowskie, Gródek nad Dunajcem, the Beskid Sądecki, the Beskid Wyspowy and the Pogórze. The viewpoint offers a broad panorama of the water, nearby places and the named landscape regions.
At the 10.1 km point, a blue hiking trail leads to Rożnów. You can stop there to rest, or ride downhill towards the church in Tabaszowa, visible in the distance. This waypoint combines clear route guidance with a choice between taking a break and continuing towards the village.
The route reaches Znamirowice at kilometre 13 and from there climbs to Rąbkowa along a series of hairpin bends. At the 15.4 km point, it turns left at a junction in Rąbkowa towards Just and continues along a blue hiking trail. These details give you different reference points: Znamirowice marks the climb to Rąbkowa, while the later turnoff is already in Rąbkowa.
The Łososińska Route is about 28 kilometres long. It starts at a junction in Kąty, passes through Michalczowa towards Łososina Dolna, and follows the Aeroklub Podhalański airfield to the centre of the municipality. After crossing the bridge over the Łososinka, it runs along the river’s right bank, past the KS „Łosoś“ stadium, and climbs a hill above Tabaszowa. This puts the individual waypoints in the context of a longer route connecting several places and landscapes.
On the way towards Just, the route passes a historic church at an altitude of 486 metres; there are views along the way. The hamlet of Szczołby offers another viewpoint nearby, with a wide panorama of the Łososina Valley. Both places complement the lake views above Tabaszowa with different perspectives on the landscape.
The chapel and history of Rąbkowa
A chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Częstochowa stands in the centre of Rąbkowa. Local residents built it in less than six months. The chapel therefore offers a direct connection to the village’s history right in its centre, alongside the scenery you can enjoy along the route and in the surrounding area.
The village’s earlier names are also part of its history. Rąbkowa was first called Romakowa and later Robkowa; its origins are dated to 1400–1440. The sequence of dates and the two earlier names provide a historical context for the village’s present-day name, without requiring a trip to another place of interest.
If you are considering Rąbkowa as a travel destination, you can choose between a stay focused on local history and a trip planned around the Łososińska Route. The chapel is in the centre of Rąbkowa; the expansive views are from the hill above Tabaszowa and other points in the surrounding area. This distinction can help you consider visiting the village and planning a route as separate priorities.
