Maniowy: Hiking Trails, Cycling and Village History

Maniowy combines hiking trails with stated walking times, cycling by the lake and insights into the history of the old village. This gives you different things to focus on when planning your visit: outdoor activity and regional culture. The two hikes differ considerably in length and duration; there are also specific starting points for a cycling trip and a SUP outing.

Hiking: two routes with different walking times

The hiking trail from Maniowy via Huba to a point below Kotelnica is 3.6 kilometres long; the stated walking time is 1 hour 45 minutes. Its expansive panorama stretches from the Pieniny Mountains across the Tatra Mountains to Babia Góra. Lake Czorsztyńskie lies below the route. The distance, walking time and views give the hike a clear framework for planning your day.

The hike from Maniowy to Polana Kudów is 7 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of 2 hours 30 minutes. Both its lower and upper sections pass scenic clearings. From there, the view stretches from the Pieniny Mountains across the Tatra Mountains, Lake Czorsztyńskie and the castles to Babia Góra. The route is therefore defined both by the path through its two sections and by the expansive views.

The figures make the difference in duration clear: the Polana Kudów hike is 3.4 kilometres longer and has a stated walking time that is 45 minutes longer. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.

Cycling and water at Lake Czorsztyńskie

The cycling route around Lake Czorsztyńskie passes through Maniowy. The cycling quest around the lake also starts here: its starting point is on the lakeshore, at the beginning of the cycling path. In the Zatopiona Osada section, the cycling path in Maniowy is 5.75 kilometres long. It is 2.5 or 3.0 metres wide and is designed for travel in both directions. Check the path conditions before riding.

Chapel and regional culture

The wooden cemetery chapel of Saint Sebastian dates from 1772 and was moved to the new cemetery in Maniowy. It connects a specific place in present-day Maniowy with the history of the village.

The Regional Chamber run by the Koło Gospodyń Wiejskich “Maniowy” has an extensive collection of old household appliances, furniture and pictures used by the residents of the old village of Maniowy. It presents the village’s history. The topics featured include the traditional Christmas Eve celebration, making Easter palms, herbal lore and folk handicrafts. Visitors can also learn about the local dialect and traditional singing. Ask about visiting arrangements before your visit.

A report dated 22 April 2025 stated that the salt graduation tower in Dolinka Micholowska had officially opened. If you plan to visit, check in advance whether it is currently operating.
