Podsarnie is located in the Polish part of Orawa and is described as one of the oldest villages in Upper Orawa; the place name is recorded in a tax register from 1567.

Next to the main road stands a figure of Saint John of Nepomuk; it was donated as a votive offering in 1874 following a flood.
