Kokotów: Cycling, Leisure and History
Accommodation in Kokotów
Kokotów is best explored through cycling, a leisure area and historic routes. The 2025 edition of the Velo Kokotów cycling day combined a family event with a route through several localities. There are also the facilities of the leisure area in Kokotów and traces of a former royal route to Niepołomice. The wider destination of Wieliczka offers additional routes and cultural history for further excursions.
The Velo Kokotów cycling day
By the time it was held in 2025, the Velo Kokotów family cycling event was already in its third edition. The cycling day route was more than 13 kilometres long and passed through Kokotów, Brzegi, Grabie, Niepołomice-Podgrabie and Węgrzce Wielkie. There were four checkpoints along the route, with tasks and questions about regional history. This event combined physical activity with a look at the localities and their history.
Leisure area in Kokotów
The leisure area in Kokotów includes a grass sports field, a children's playground, an outdoor fitness area, a zip line, a table tennis table and table football. It is intended to provide opportunities for relaxation, play and spending time outdoors. The various facilities offer several options for planning a visit, from the playground to the fitness area. As the facilities may change, it is advisable to check the current status before visiting.
A historic route through the locality
The history of its routes is also part of Kokotów's character: a former royal route to Niepołomice passed through the locality. Together with the cycling day, this offers a view of Kokotów both as the setting for a cycling event and as a place on a former travel route.
Cycling routes and mining history in the Wieliczka destination
In the wider destination of Wieliczka, the Salt Mine is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Wieliczka and Bochnia Royal Salt Mines”. The underground Miners' Route includes 7 to 14 extraction chambers in the rugged workings around the oldest preserved Regis shaft; it is up to two kilometres long.
The cycling routes also differ in their described form: the yellow route is a hiking and cycling route between Wieliczka and Dobczyce. The red cycling route forms a 27-kilometre loop through Wieliczka and Siercza. The “Las i stawy na Grabówkach” ecological protected area is also located along the hiking and cycling route from Wieliczka. As route conditions may change, you should check the state of the route before setting out.
