Lubański offers several ways to explore the area: medieval buildings, residences from different periods, sacred art and evidence of the history of water engineering. The landscape in the Kwisa Valley is also part of the destination’s character. If you are looking for accommodation, you can start by considering whether architecture and urban history, excursions by the water or a combination of both should be the focus of your stay.

Towers, castles and sacred art

In Lubań (Lauban), the Wieża Bracka, or Bracka Tower, was built in 1318. The eight-storey structure is 45 metres high. It houses the Mineralogy Department of the Regional Museum in Lubań. Its collection includes minerals from the Kwisa Valley, as well as the Jizera and Giant Mountains. This brings the town’s history and geological themes from the wider region together in a single building.

Zamek Czocha tells a different architectural story. The castle was built in the 13th century by a Bohemian ruler and, following a renovation led by Bodo Ebhardt in the early 20th century, some parts took on a fairytale-like appearance. A guided tour of the courtyards can also include a visit to the castle tower, which offers views of the surrounding area. The palace in Nawojów Łużycki dates from 1570–1571 and is one of the most valuable Renaissance architectural monuments in the whole of Upper Lusatia. The palace in Biedrzychowice, in turn, is a Baroque palace and one of the most impressive buildings of its kind in western Lower Silesia.

Smaller architectural details also offer a distinct way to explore the history of these places. The Church of the Sacred Heart in Świecie dates from the 14th century. Its wooden coffered ceiling is decorated with portraits of saints. Visitors who enjoy paying attention to interiors and furnishings will find a different point of interest here than in the towers and residences.

Water engineering and the landscape in the Kwisa Valley

The Leśniańska Dam is 45 metres high and 130 metres long at the crest. Poland’s oldest pumped-storage power station stands at the foot of the dam. Together, the two structures make the history of water engineering visible in the landscape. Excursions in the Kwisa Valley pass along the river, wooded hills and rock faces, as well as a reservoir. This combines natural scenery with a view of the surroundings shaped by water, without limiting the experience to a single viewpoint.

The spa house in Świeradów-Zdrój (Bad Flinsberg) offers another, more leisure-oriented aspect: its 80-metre-long promenade hall is made of larch wood. Each of the different places and buildings has its own focus. This lets you plan your trip around your personal interests rather than reducing the destination to a single theme.

Excursion routes and points of interest

The Lubań County presents five themed excursion routes. They focus on fortifications, aristocratic residences, remnants of the former criminal justice system, hydrotechnical monuments and sacred monuments. These themes provide a useful guide to choosing what you would like to explore during your stay: architecture and the history of power feature alongside the history of technology and the church.

There is also a specific option for cyclists in Lubań: a 2.8-kilometre shared walking and cycling path runs along the DK30 and opened in August 2026. When looking for a hotel or other accommodation at the destination, you can start with the experiences you are looking for. Consider whether you would rather include the buildings, the landscape along the Kwisa or cycling and walking options in your plans. This way, you can choose a suitable location within the destination based on your own interests, without assuming that you need a particular type of accommodation.
