The Uroczysko ObiszĂłw nature reserve protects a well-developed oak-hornbeam forest with a relatively rich and natural native flora. Stawy Przemkowskie offers a different natural feature: its ponds form an ornithological reserve in the landscape of the Powiat Polkowicki. Przemkowski Landscape Park covers 22,338 hectares, with a further 15,467 hectares in its buffer zone. The trails also differ in their themes and lengths. The Stawy Przemkowskie trail is 16 kilometres long and focuses on wetland ecosystems. The marked nature and culture trail in Grodowiec is 2.3 kilometres long and designated for walkers and cyclists. JakubĂłw lies in the Dalkowskie Hills. In the municipality of PrzemkĂłw, the Trasa Miedziana is described as a project approximately 9.5 kilometres long; its route passes through Przemkowski Landscape Park. Its stated focus therefore differs from that of the themed trails that highlight wetlands, forests or the area around Grodowiec.
City History and Historic Buildings
The old town in Polkowice was completely rebuilt and is described as the youngest old town in Poland. An educational trail called “Śladami historii Polkowic” (Following the History of Polkowice) starts in the market square and passes historic buildings in the old town. Along the way, it introduces Polkowice’s most important surviving historic buildings. The trail offers a distinct way to explore the city’s history, while the surviving windmill marks a specific historic site: of the many historic windmills in Polkowice, only one remains today; it stands on ul. Młyńska.
Notable buildings can also be found beyond the old town. The sanctuary in Grodowiec is an architectural complex dating from the 16th to the 19th century. The church in JakubĂłw is a Gothic building from the 14th century. The two sites showcase architecture from different periods. The Wiatrak Polkowicki houses an exhibition on the history of Polkowice.
