Nature and wildlife in Lubin and along the Oder

At Ogród Zoologiczny w Lubinie, there is an educational and tourist trail called “Fauna Polski”, featuring a European bison enclosure. It opened in 2023. Another themed trail at the zoo, Szlak Ptaków, includes aviaries for more than 60 bird species from Poland and around the world. The two trails have different focuses: one highlights the fauna of Poland and European bison, while the other features bird species from various regions.

The Dolina Zimnicy educational trail lies within the city of Lubin and adds a dedicated route in the city to its nature attractions. In the municipality of Ścinawa, the “Łęgi Odrzańskie” and oxbow lakes are part of the natural landscape; these habitats are home to numerous plant and animal species. The Pętla ścinawsko-chobieńska canoe route passes close to the “Ścinawskie Bagna” ecological landscape feature. Rare waterbirds occur there, including garganey, western marsh harrier, montagu's harrier and Eurasian oystercatcher. The 18-kilometre canoe route runs from Ścinawa to Chobienia. Check the current conditions for departure and return before setting out. Ścinawa also has an inland port on the Oder.

The hiking trails vary considerably in their published lengths. The black Szlak spacerowy runs for 11.5 kilometres from Lubin via Obora to Szklary Górne. The red local trail Szlak dookoła Lubina is 85.5 kilometres long. At about 129 kilometres, the red Szlak Dziadoszan is much longer; this regional hiking trail is part of the Lubin County trail network. The blue Szlak Odry is a 256-kilometre national hiking trail in the Kraina Łęgów Odrzańskich region. In the county, it passes through Ścinawa and Chobienia.

The Way of St. James is also represented: the section of the pan-European route that crosses the county is called Miedziana Droga Św. Jakuba and has historical significance. The 99.9-kilometre blue PTTK hiking trail DS.-175-n runs through the county; it is listed in the county’s 2022 cultural heritage programme. If you prefer to plan a cycling trip, there is the 52-kilometre Trasa z Lubina do Górzyna. It runs from Lubin via Składowice, Toszowice, Miłogoszcz, Górzyn, Tymowa and Siedlce, before returning to Lubin. History and culture in Lubin

The open-air exhibition “Pionierzy lubińscy 1945” is located at the railway station in Lubin. It includes the restored Ty2-22 locomotive. The town hall was built in 1768–1769 and now houses Muzeum Historyczne w Lubinie. The museum’s outdoor area is in Park Leśny. It includes permanent exhibitions on the First World War and the Soviet occupation of Poland, as well as a recreational area with a climbing park.

Those interested in older architecture can see 14th-century town walls in Lubin, which are listed in the monuments register. The defensive tower on ul. Tysiąclecia also dates from the 14th century and is listed in the register. Another, differently focused way to explore and discover together is Majsternia in Strefa SOWA: for the 2025/2026 school year, it was planned as a workshop area where groups would work with an instructor to develop solutions to assigned problems.
