Parkland and views in Podzamcze

The Podzamcze manor and park complex sits on a rise where the Świnka flows into the Wieprz. Its design combines elements of an 18th-century Italian garden with a 19th-century landscape park. These distinct garden and park styles shape the character of the complex. Paved paths and squares lead visitors through the former manor grounds, making it possible to explore the complex as you walk through its different areas.

A notable feature is the observation tower, housed in a building once used for drying hops. Its terrace is ten metres above the ground. There is also an outdoor fitness area in the eastern part of the park. The views, landscaped park areas, and opportunities for outdoor exercise are all reasons to include Podzamcze in your travel plans. If you are especially interested in the site’s history, you can also look out for the contrast between the 18th-century Italian garden and the 19th-century landscape park.

Łęczna’s history at the town hall and former inns

Łęczna’s origins as a town date back to 1467. When it was granted town rights, Łęczna also gained the right to hold fairs. The history of these fairs is reflected in the city’s architectural heritage: former inns at ul. 3 Maja 26 and 37 and pl. Kanałowy 18 and 26 are surviving examples of 19th-century architecture from the heyday of Łęczna’s fairs. Their addresses make them specific points of interest for anyone interested in this chapter of the city’s history.

The town hall stands on Plac Kościuszki, in the northeastern part of Rynek I. The building was originally constructed as a guardhouse in the late 19th century. The history of the Synagoga Duża is another defining historical theme in Łęczna: it was largely destroyed during the war and in the postwar period, then rebuilt between 1953 and 1964. The town hall, former inns, and synagogue each represent different aspects of the city’s architecture and history, so they can also be explored as separate points of interest.

Festiwal Kapel Ulicznych i Podwórkowych

A recurring event on the calendar is the international Festiwal Kapel Ulicznych i Podwórkowych. It takes place in Łęczna every year on the last weekend of July.

These different reasons to visit can be considered separately: Podzamcze offers landscaped park areas, paths, the observation tower, and the fitness area; the town centre is home to the town hall, historic architecture, and the story of the fairs; and the festival provides a recurring summer date. Depending on which theme interests you most, you can plan your stay accordingly, without combining the different places and experiences into a single itinerary.
