A landscape park with distinctive tree-lined avenues
The 26-hectare park in Radziejowice was laid out as an English landscape garden from 1817 onwards. It contains a lime-tree avenue and an ash-tree avenue, both listed as natural monuments, as well as a ginkgo tree. The park therefore brings together a historic style of landscaping and distinctive, specifically named trees and avenues. If you are interested in landscape design, the park offers a focus in its own right alongside the history of the palace.
The palace’s history in several stages
The Baroque palace was built by Stanisław Radziejowski in the early 17th century. Towards the end of the 18th century, it underwent a major renovation commissioned by Kazimierz Krasiński. Ownership also changed over time: the palace and park complex first belonged to the Radziejowski family, and later to the Prażmowski, Ossoliński and Krasiński families. The builder, renovation and succession of owners offer different chronological reference points for understanding the palace’s development, rather than reducing it to a single period.
Art in the palace and a museum nearby
Since 2012, the palace has housed a permanent monographic exhibition of works by Józef Chełmoński. Personal mementos and photographs complement the works on display. The exhibition thus brings together artworks and objects and images from the artist’s life.
Another cultural venue is located near Radziejowice: the Muzeum Lwowa i Kresów is in Kuklówka Radziejowicka, in a faithfully recreated copy of a manor house dating from 1827. It is a separate stop outside Radziejowice, while the Chełmoński exhibition is inside the palace.
The festival takes place in July
The Letni Festiwal im. Jerzego Waldorffa has been held every July since 2009 at the Dom Pracy Twórczej in Radziejowice. The festival includes concerts and performances. It provides a recurring seasonal highlight alongside the cultural attractions available year-round.
