Krzyczki-Żabiczki: Landscape, Trails and History in the Nasielsk Area

Krzyczki-Żabiczki combines an unusual history of its name with a landscape of forests, moraine formations, water and trails. The name is derived from Żabiczyn; the earlier form Krzyczki-Żabickie was later changed to Krzyczki-Żabiczki.

A Place Shaped by History

The origins of the hamlet of Krzyczki-Żabiczki are associated with the period after the Swedish invasion, when the minor nobility took over land from Adamowo, also known as Jadamowo, which had been abandoned after the war. The land was part of the estates of the Żabicki family from Żabiczyn.

In 1880, Krzyczki-Żabiczki, together with Krzyczki-Karasie, Krzyczki-Pieniążki and Krzyczki-Szumne, belonged to the noble villages in the then Pułtusk County and in the Nasielsk municipality and parish.

Forests, Water and Moraine Formations

The Nasielsk-Karniewo Protected Landscape Area forms part of the landscape setting. Within the Nasielsk municipality, it covers 3,382 hectares. The scenic section of the Ciechanowska Upland extends from Nasielsk to Pułtusk and includes remnants of moraine and kame hills, forest and marsh areas, as well as the valley of the lower Narew. For landscape observation, elevated landforms, forest, marshland and river valley are therefore found within one continuous protected landscape area.

The green “Szlak leśno-morenowy Ziemi Nasielskiej” trail runs through the Wkra Valley, forest complexes and headwaters with streams, hills and moraine depressions within the Nasielsk municipality. It also passes Lake Zieleń, numerous ponds in Miękoszyn, Studzianki and Psucin, and wetlands.

Active Along the Wkra and on Country Roads

The Wkra is one of Poland’s cleanest rivers. Within the Nasielsk municipality, visitors can go kayaking, fish, swim in the river and relax on the bank or at a beach. Along the Wkra, active time on the water and a break by the river can be planned as separate parts of the day.

There are no cycle paths for cyclists. Dozens of kilometres of paved country roads between grain fields and meadows are available to them. Near Zaborze and Chrcynno, unusual hills rise in the otherwise flat landscape of Mazovia. More than 100 kilometres of hiking trails lead walkers and cyclists to landscapes and prehistoric burial mounds. For cyclists, the surface is therefore clearly defined: paved country roads rather than separate cycle paths; near Zaborze and Chrcynno, unusual hills also stand out in the otherwise flat Masovian landscape. Routes and Bus Stop

The red cycle route “Szlak 100-lecia Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 r.” is designated as a cycling route. The church Kościół p.w. Św. Doroty Cieksyn is a point along this cycle route. Visitors interested in culture can view the church Kościół p.w. Doroty Cieksyn as an individual point on the cycling route together with the area’s historical references.

During the timetable period from 2 January 2025 to 31 December 2025, the “Krzyczki Żabiczki 01” stop was connected by municipal route 5, “Nasielsk – Krzyczki – Nasielsk”.
