Austeria: Local History and Art

The history of the Austeria building dates back to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries; the building has been restored. The complex is one of the surviving elements of the historic urban layout of Raszyn’s centre. The Austeria is therefore not just a single historic site, but part of the centre’s inherited character.

During the Battle of Raszyn in 1809, Prince Józef Poniatowski had his headquarters here. Visitors can see copies of paintings depicting the battle by January Suchodolski and Wojciech Kossak, as well as vedute by Canaletto, at the Austeria. In this way, the history of the building, the memory of a specific event and Canaletto’s views come together in one place.

Church and Memorial Site

Another highlight is the Roman Catholic parish church of Św. Szczepana i św. Anny. It is Baroque-Classicist and is considered a valuable architectural monument from the 17th century. The Reduta Raszyńska commemorates the 1809 Battle of Raszyn and those who fell in the First World War. Taken together, these represent two different forms of remembrance and architectural history: the architectural significance of a parish church and the memory of a battle and those killed in war.

Ponds and Birdlife near Falenty

In the municipality surrounding Raszyn, there are 11 ponds in Falenty. This extensive area provides a habitat for around 130 bird species. The Stawy Raszyńskie nature reserve, together with its buffer zone, covers just under 350 hectares. These figures give the landscape its own significance alongside the historic buildings and sites. The ponds and birdlife are specifically associated with Falenty; they are a different local point of interest from the historic buildings in the centre of Raszyn.

A cycling route of more than 7.1 kilometres runs from the Warsaw border along Aleja Krakowska, through Raszyński Park and onwards via Stadionowa, Raszyńska, Warszawska and Górna streets. It passes through a large part of the municipality of Raszyn. The municipality announced the completion of the cycling route in June 2022.
