For your trip planning, Głuchołazy offers several distinct themes: remnants of medieval fortifications, memorials in the Market Square, park trails and a viewpoint above the Biała Głuchołaska valley. There is also the red trail via the Góry Parkowej massif and Biskupia Kopa, as well as an exhibition on the history of the Order of the Smile.

Getting Your Bearings and Trails

The tourist information centre is in the heart of the old town, next to Wieża Bramy Górnej, the most impressive surviving section of the medieval defensive walls. The centre provides information on tourist attractions in the Góry Opawskie, as well as local and regional train and bus timetables. This gives you two complementary types of information for planning: an overview of the mountain region and timetable information.

The Główny Szlak Sudecki im. Mieczysława Orłowicza was extended to Głuchołazy only in 2000. In the town, it connects to the existing red trail. This leads from Głuchołazy via the Góry Parkowej massif and Biskupia Kopa to Prudnik. For route planning, it is important to distinguish the details: the year refers to the extension to Głuchołazy; the named landscape features and Prudnik describe the route of the red trail.

Landscape and Park

Czarcia Ambona is a viewpoint above a rocky escarpment that bounds the Biała Głuchołaska valley to the north. Zdrojowy Park offers a different kind of nature experience, forming a central part of the former spa resort. It has walking paths and rest areas, as well as access to a stream where you can wade. The two highlights are quite distinct: Czarcia Ambona offers views over the valley, while the park is a place for paths, breaks and the stream.

City History and Culture

Remains of medieval defensive walls can be seen on M. Curie-Skłodowskiej Street. In the Market Square stands the Głuchołaska Lipa na Rynku, probably planted after 1648 as a peace tree to commemorate the end of the Thirty Years’ War. Also in the Market Square, a model depicts Głuchołazy in the 17th century; it was installed to mark the city’s 800th anniversary. The tree and model highlight different aspects of history: the linden commemorates the end of the war, while the model illustrates what the city looked like in the 17th century.

St. Lawrence Parish Church has a magnificent Baroque interior. Its Neo-Baroque high altar features a large figure of St. Lawrence. This makes it possible to distinguish two levels of design: the church interior as a whole and the high altar in particular.

The Głuchołaska Izba Pamięci Orderu Uśmiechu has been open since 2023. Its permanent exhibition is devoted to the history of the Order and the people honoured with it. Along a path, there are also six life-size sculptures of gold miners, depicting different tasks involved in extracting gold. The figures illustrate several activities in sequence, while the permanent exhibition focuses on the Order and the people honoured with it.
