Fortress routes and hiking trails in Nysa
The Fortress Route starts in the centre of Nysa and leads to Fort II. Another tourist route connects the Bastion of St. Jadwiga with Fort Wodny.
Part of the fortifications in the Fortress Nysa Cultural Landscape and Nature Park lies within the Natura 2000 area. If you plan your visit around the fortifications, you can also take this limited connection with the protected area into account.
The Nysa Municipal Hiking Trail is marked with yellow and red diamonds. In the wider Neisse travel destination, the Miejski Szlak Turystyczny passes the main historic sights and fortifications of Nysa; it is a 13-kilometre circular route. Guidebooks, maps and a tourist pass for this trail are available from the tourist information office in Nysa. Check whether these materials are available before your trip.
The Nyska Way of St. James also passes through Nysa.
Buildings and culture in the city
Places in Nysa cited as worth visiting include the Baroque Church of St. Peter and Paul, the Triton Fountain, the Weigh House and the Beautiful Well. They also include the Salt Market with the Jesuit complex, and the House of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth with the memorial room of Blessed Maria Luiza Merkert. The Weigh House was built in 1602–1604, funded by Bishop Jan Sitsch.
In the wider Neisse travel destination, the Basilica of St. James the Apostle and St. Agnes was added to Poland’s list of historic monuments in 2011. Its bell tower has an observation platform with views of the city, the lake and the nearby mountains. The parish offers audio guides to visitors through its parish office; confirm their availability in advance.
The Bastion of St. Jadwiga is also part of the cultural offer in the wider Neisse travel destination: after a full restoration, it became a tourist attraction and a venue for cultural events. The Piękna Studnia features a Baroque wrought-iron grille created by Wilhelm Helleweg. The Fontanna Trytona was carved from marble from Sławniowice in 1700–1701.
The Muzeum Powiatowe w Nysie is housed in the historic former palace of the Bishops of Wrocław. Its permanent exhibition presents the history of Nysa and the entire region. If you are interested in the past of the town and its surroundings, you can explore both a building with a historic use and an exhibition focused on local and regional history.

The Centrum Produktu Lokalnego is located in central Nysa, next to the Fontanna Trytona. It offers workshops on cooking, baking cakes, decorating gingerbread and making chocolate. Check the current workshop dates in advance. The Nyski Dom Kultury also organises concerts, theatre performances, art workshops, festivals and events for residents and tourists; you can check specific dates as part of your planning.
For a longer route, the trail around Jezioro Nyskie offers a different scale from the 13-kilometre Municipal Hiking Trail. It runs along the shore of the lake and the EuroVelo 9 route. The dam section is about five kilometres long and paved; in favourable weather, it offers views of the Sudetes. The circular route returns to Nysa via the Szlak Kopernikowski and is about 30–35 kilometres long. The two circular routes therefore differ considerably in their stated lengths. Plan to enjoy views of the Sudetes only in favourable weather.
