Three described routes end in Bierdzan (Bierdzany). The village is also home to the Church of St. Jadwiga and designated natural monument trees. This gives you the chance to get to know the place through specific routes and distinctive details of the church’s architecture. When planning your trip, it is worth looking at which stops each route connects and whether you are also interested in architecture and local history.

Routes with different stops

One route runs from Ozimek via Antoniów, Jedlice and Szczedrzyk to the southern shore of Jezioro Turawskie. The described route then continues via Jezioro Małe and Jezioro Średnie, the dam, Turawa, Marszałki, Stawy Marszałki and Bory Turawskie to Hubertus and on to Bierdzany. The lakes, dam and place names provide a clearly defined sequence along this route. If you compare routes by their listed stops, this one includes a particularly wide variety of landscape and place names.

A second route starts in Krasiejów and runs via Grodziec, Poliwoda, Zakrzów Turawski and Ligota Turawska to Bierdzany. Its sequence of intermediate stops differs significantly from the route from Ozimek. Another description gives a route from Opole via Zawada, Turawa and Zakrzów Turawski to Bierdzany. It is called “Szlak trzech jezior” (“Trail of Three Lakes”). All three routes end in Bierdzany, but each has a different starting point and different stops along the way. When choosing, you can focus on the route that appeals to you most.

Church architecture and natural monuments

The Church of St. Jadwiga in Bierdzany is oriented east and has a cruciform layout. Its short chancel and western tower give the building a distinctive shape. The sequence of the tower roofs is also described precisely: the tower was initially covered with a tent roof, and since the 1930s it has had a spire. A side altar dates from 1718 and was made by master carpenter Kasper Żołądek. For travellers interested in church architecture, the layout, tower and altar each offer a specific point of interest.

Five lime trees and four oaks grow around the wooden church in Bierdzany, and are designated natural monuments. The number and species of trees are described as precisely as the details of the church building. Together, the architecture, altar and trees provide several distinct themes for a visit, without requiring a long list of different attractions.

The wider lake region

The wider travel region of Kraina Jezior Turawskich includes a lake landscape with four reservoirs. These include Jezioro Turawskie, the largest reservoir, and the smaller Jezioro Średnie and Jezioro Małe. The lakes also feature along the described route from Ozimek, which additionally passes through Turawa and over the dam. This lets you place the route’s specific stops in a broader regional context. Along with the church building and the natural monument trees, Bierdzan offers a range of themes to guide the rest of your trip through Poland.
