Krasiejów: Fossils, Science and Architecture
Accommodation in Krasiejów
Krasiejów combines a forested landscape with themes of paleontology, science and architectural history. The Paleontological Museum is housed in the old school building in the town center; the JuraPark complex offers a range of attractions related to the history of the Earth. The Church of St. Margaret adds another historical dimension. Krasiejów therefore offers a variety of points of interest for a stay, depending on whether you are interested in prehistoric finds, interactive learning or architecture.
Museum and architectural history in the town center
The Paleontological Museum is housed in the old school building in the center of Krasiejów. It was officially opened on January 21, 2005. Its location and opening history give the museum visit a clear local connection: paleontology is not only a theme of a larger visitor attraction here, but is also present in a historic school building in the town center.
The neo-Baroque Church of St. Margaret adds another piece of architectural history. The historic church dates from 1912. Its neo-Baroque architecture contrasts with fossils and evolution as prehistoric themes: here, the focus is on a building from the early 20th century. If you appreciate historic architecture as well as paleontological attractions, the church is one of the town's distinct sights.
Paleontology at the JuraPark complex
The Paleontological Pavilion houses Europe's largest collection of Triassic amphibian and reptile fossils. One special feature of the display is that the fossils can be viewed through a glass floor. The Prehistoric Oceanarium takes a different approach, showcasing life-size models of a megalodon, a mosasaur, a Liopleurodon and a plesiosaur. Fossils and models offer different ways to explore prehistoric animals—through preserved remains in one case, and large-scale representations in the other.
The JuraPark Krasiejów complex also includes an interactive Time Tunnel. The Park of Science and Human Evolution also features interactive presentations showing important events in human evolution. JuraPark is described as a family-oriented place for recreation and learning. Its attractions therefore cater to a range of interests, so you do not have to limit your visit to just one type of learning experience.
A trail in the Park of Science and Entertainment features life-size models of reptiles, amphibians and dinosaurs. Together with the Time Tunnel and the presentations on human evolution, it offers a wide-ranging set of themes: when planning your visit, you can distinguish between prehistoric animals, fossils and human development rather than treating every attraction as the same experience.
Woodland scenery and time outdoors
Krasiejów lies in the Mała Panew catchment area and is surrounded by extensive woodland. This landscape provides a contrast to the exhibitions and interactive attractions: the cultural and scientific program is complemented by the town's distinctly wooded character. When choosing where to stay, the surrounding landscape may therefore be a consideration alongside the paleontological attractions.
At the “Granica” landing stage, there is a campsite, a fire pit, a playground, a volleyball court, bicycle racks, and seating and rest areas. The facilities combine places to relax with opportunities for exercise and play. When weighing up the different sides of Krasiejów, you can choose between the museum, historic architecture, paleontological attractions and a well-equipped outdoor recreation area as distinct points of interest.
