Culture and history

Czarne is home to the monument commemorating the Battle of Czarne in 1627. The parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is also located in the town. This 18th-century sacred building was constructed using traditional half-timbered techniques and is distinguished by its well-preserved architectural form.

Modern-day Czarne is associated with Stalag II-B, a German prisoner-of-war camp from the Second World War. There are also information boards about the prisoner-of-war camps in Czarne.

Czarne Castle was built between 1395 and 1403 on an irregular trapezoidal plan, with a tower. A moat, fragments of the defensive walls and bastions have survived from its medieval fortifications. Until the mid-15th century, the castle was under the rule of the Teutonic Order.

On the water and by bike

The canoeing trail on the Czernica reaches Czarne, the largest settlement along the route. The Sporysz–Lubnica section is of medium difficulty. At the mill in the center of Czarne, a portage is required on this canoeing trail.

Czarne has a cycling route around the town named after Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski. In addition, the 35.5-kilometer “Hetman Koniecpolski” cycling route runs from Człuchów through several intermediate towns to Czarne.

There is a promenade along the Czernica River in Czarne named after Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski.
