The northern and southeastern parts of the Długi Kierz area lie within the “Kaszubski Landscape Park”. The remaining part of the Długi Kierz area lies within the buffer zone of the “Kaszubski Landscape Park”. In the eastern part of Długi Kierz, near the border with the Chmielno municipality, there is a section of the “Doliny Łeby w KPK” nature and landscape protection complex.

Smaller areas are also designated in different ways: an area of 1.7361 hectares is designated as a landscape park. An area of 17.7558 hectares lies within the buffer zone of a landscape park.

History and culture

To the west of Długi Kierz are the ruins of a former brickyard. A brickyard operated in Długi Kierz throughout the entire interwar period and after the Second World War, until the 1980s. It employed several dozen people and was for a time the largest industrial plant in what is now the Sierakowice municipality.

According to the most frequently cited origin story, Helena Gruchałowa, a housewife from the village of Długi Kierz, spread strawberry cultivation in the early 1920s after transplanting some neglected plants, initially thought to be wild strawberries, from a neighbour’s garden into her own garden. It later turned out that they were strawberries, from which she obtained substantial fruit after a few years.

Trails

In the vicinity of Długi Kierz, the marked Wzgórz Szymbarskich trail crosses several times the barely discernible track bed of a former industrial railway used to transport stone.

On the way to Długi Kierz, the marked trail runs for about 700 metres slightly uphill along a paved road and then turns north onto a dirt road. The section of trail beyond Długi Kierz runs between fields, small patches of woodland and scattered farmsteads.

The unmarked “Szlak Truskawek Kaszubskich” driving route, established in 2024, runs along a side section from Miechucino through Długi Kierz to Wygoda Łączyńska.
