Szemud: Hiking Trails, Lakes and St Nicholas Church
Hiking
The green Route No. 31 in Szemud completes its circular course after 4.6 km. Its starting point is next to the headquarters of the LGD “Kaszubska Droga”; after 800 metres, it turns into Nadrzeczna Street and then continues along a naturally surfaced path.
Route 32 starts at a car park near Lake Okuniewo. After 500 metres, it offers a view of Lake Okuniewo and reaches the historic paved long-distance road Via Regia, also known as the Royal Road or “kocie łby”.
The red Route No. 33 starts at a car park on Lake Czarne. Most of the route runs along unpaved paths and forest tracks; before entering the forest, it crosses Road 224.
The black Route No. 34 is a circular course just under 19 km long and takes approximately three hours. It runs through the Tricity Landscape Park and into a nature reserve.
Different lengths, surfaces, starting points and natural or historical features can therefore be considered side by side when planning a day trip.
Culture
The parish of St Nicholas in Szemud is documented as early as the 14th century; before 1370, there was a chapel on the road leading to the cemetery.
The present brick Church of St Nicholas in Szemud replaced an older half-timbered church in the 1920s. Inside St Nicholas Church, some Baroque paintings depicting St Nicholas and Our Lady of the Rosary have been preserved. St Nicholas Church also houses a monstrance with a radiating aureole dating from the second half of the 18th century.

The Gminna Izba Regionalna im. Remusa in Łebno is closed until further notice due to a comprehensive renovation of the building. It has approximately 1,000 exhibits from fields such as art, archaeology, ethnography, history, military affairs, numismatics, technology and natural history.

Szemud is located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, in Wejherowo County and the Gmina Szemud. Szemud lies on the S6 expressway and Voivodeship Road 224. The village is the seat of the Gmina Szemud and of the Roman Catholic parish, which belongs to the Kielno deanery and the Archdiocese of Gdańsk.
