Chudów Castle and Museum

Chudów Castle is a partially reconstructed Renaissance residence built on the foundations of an earlier fortification. The “Zamek w Chudowie” Museum is housed in a partially reconstructed castle tower. The castle was built in the 16th century by Jan Gierałtowski. This means the history of the Renaissance residence and a visit to the museum come together at the same historic site.

In the museum’s archaeological exhibition, you can see reconstructed pottery vessels and fragments of a medieval well. The selection brings together objects from different contexts: vessels are displayed alongside the remains of a well. If you are planning your visit for the 2026 season, the museum is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 18:00.

An ensemble of castle, park and farm buildings

Together with the surrounding meadows, groves and associated farm buildings, the castle forms a distinctive cultural and landscape ensemble. This also includes a nearby 18th-century granary. The castle, granary and approximately 7-hectare park are among the surviving remains of the former Chudów-Paniówki knightly estates. The granary thus offers another historic building through which to appreciate the ensemble alongside the castle.

The castle ruins are being restored and rebuilt. The ongoing work at this historic site is therefore part of Chudów, as are its surviving structural elements. As you explore the castle’s history, you will encounter both the partially reconstructed Renaissance residence and the history of the older fortification, as well as the other parts of the ensemble.

Cultural events and regional history

Since 1996, the open-air cultural events “Spotkania na Zamku w Chudowie” have been held on the castle grounds. The programme includes reenactments, historical performances, concerts and other events. These open-air events add another cultural dimension to a visit to the castle; check specific dates to suit your travel plans.

Another cultural stop is Izba łod Starki, a regional heritage room housed in Chudów’s more than 100-year-old Old School building. While the castle is associated with Renaissance architecture and the museum, the heritage room offers a glimpse of the town’s history in another historic building. Together, these places offer different ways to shape a culturally focused stay.

Explore Chudów by bike

Two cycling routes of different lengths and itineraries pass through Chudów. Yellow Cycling Route No. 373 starts in Paniówki on National Road No. 44 and runs via Chudów to Gierałtowice. The route is 7.5 kilometres long, is considered easy and is suitable for beginners.

Blue Cycling Route No. 372 runs from Paniówki to Nieborowice, is 21 kilometres long and passes through Chudów, Ornontowice and Knurów. The two routes therefore differ both in their stated lengths and in their destinations. When choosing, you can compare these details with your preferred itinerary; the beginner-friendly rating applies to the yellow route.

You can decide which theme to focus on—visiting the museum, exploring the castle and its surroundings, or going on a bike ride.
