Lubliniec: Market History and Routes Through Nature

Market Square and Architectural History

The historic centre developed from the medieval town founded under German law. Its square market place, Plac Konrada Mańki, and streets lined with numerous houses from the 19th century shape its historic layout. House No. 5 stands on the main market square and is the oldest surviving market building. It dates from the late 18th century.

The churches also reflect different phases of construction. The present-day appearance of St Nicholas Church is the result of several building and renovation phases: it was originally a Gothic building; later, a Baroque structure was built using older walls. The wooden St Anne’s Church on ul. Św. Anny in the centre was built in 1653 and reconstructed between 1996 and 2004. Its interior is Baroque; the church has undergone extensive renovation.

Places of Remembrance in Lubliniec and Steblów

The Muzeum Pro Memoria Edith Stein is housed in a tenement building in Lubliniec that once belonged to Edith Stein’s grandparents, Adelajda and Salomon Courant. The Jewish cemetery on ul. 11 Listopada commemorates the Jewish community’s two-hundred-year presence in the Silesian city. In Steblów, the parish church is dedicated to Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Edith Stein. It was elevated to the status of a sanctuary in December 2021.

Kokotek: Outdoor and Waterside Activities

Kokotek is a tourist recreation district of Lubliniec, accessible by a cycling route through the forest. Hiking, cycling and horse riding are possible there all year round; cross-country skiing is also available in winter. The different activities offer a range of options when planning a stay, without requiring you to commit to a single season.

Lake Posmyk in Kokotek is about 1.7 kilometres long and slightly less than a kilometre wide. The district also has numerous ponds suitable for spending time by the water and for water sports. In the city area, boats, pedal boats and kayaks are available to visitors at the Silesiana and Ustronie Leśne leisure centres. As individual offerings may change, it is worth checking their availability before your visit.

Leisure Activities and Their Conditions

The pétanque court at the sports and leisure centre in Lubliniec is free and open to the public. It can be used by individuals as well as organised groups. The Wodny Plac Zabaw is open seasonally from 1 June to 31 August, seven days a week. Weather- or operational changes to the schedule are possible, so check it before your visit.

Cycling and Walking Routes Around Lubliniec

Two marked cycling routes are described, with different starting and ending points. The blue Turystyczna No. 852 cycling route runs from Lipie through the centre of Lubliniec to Lubliniec-Wymyślacz. The yellow Turystyczna No. 439 cycling route starts at the market square and heads towards Steblów; initially, it runs north along al. Solidarności.

Nordic Walking Route No. 4 runs through the forests south of Lubliniec, past the Łopian forestry lodge. Rest areas and information boards on Nordic walking preparation and exercises are located along the route. The routes offer practical landmarks for planning: the cycling routes connect named places and sections of the city centre, while the Nordic walking route includes forest trails and rest areas.
