History and location
From 1748 to 1946, Bukowsko was a town and belonged, among others, to the Ossoliński family. It lies in a broad depression at the foot of the Bukowica mountain range. The Bukowiec and Sanoczek streams are part of the San river basin. The depression and mountain range describe the terrain, while the two stream names specify the waterways. These named features help locate Bukowsko geographically, while its history as a town provides a separate historical point of reference.
Murals and nature in the town centre
Murals can be seen in Bukowsko mainly at bus stops and also in the town centre. One mural is on the wall of the Dom Kultury. A Jewish cemetery is also among Bukowsko’s historical points of interest.
In the town centre, there is a place where you can learn about the flora and fauna of the Carpathians. Educational boards about the natural diversity of the Carpathian Foothills line the footpath around the square. The site was created in 2021. Trails with different destinations
The yellow-and-red-marked “Szlakiem historycznych osad” trail is 15 kilometres long. It starts at the Caritas retreat centre in Zboiska and ends in Bukowsko. You can also start in Bukowsko and complete the route in stages. For this trail, you can choose between the route described from Zboiska to Bukowsko and the option of starting in Bukowsko and completing it in stages. The “Buczyna Karpacka” trail also leads to Bukowica within the municipality; access is possible from Wola Piotrowa. You can use it for hiking and cycling. The educational trail “Śladami trzech narodów – Polacy, Rusini i Żydzi w Gminie Bukowsko” runs from Bukowsko to Kamienne, a historic settlement that no longer exists. The trails have different destinations: the 15-kilometre trail ends in Bukowsko, “Buczyna Karpacka” leads to Bukowica, and the educational trail leads to Kamienne.
