At Lake Świętajno: quiet zone, boating and fishing

The use of watercraft with combustion engines is prohibited on Lake Świętajno. Fishing is possible from the pier and from a boat. If you want to go out on the water, check the current local rules in advance. Before fishing, you should also find out about current regulations and any required permits.

The quiet zone, the ban on motorboats and the opportunities for fishing are different aspects of the lake and should each be taken into account when planning. This lets you plan your activities on the water specifically, without applying the conditions for one activity to another.

Cycling by the lake and onward to the Hindenburg Line

At kilometre marker 29.5, the Jurand Cycling Route reaches Lake Świętajno. After the section by the lake comes a 400-metre link; the route then runs along the fortifications of the 19th-century Hindenburg Line. The route description thus links a landmark by the water with a section whose course is shaped by historic fortifications.

Forest and routes at the level of the Gmina Świętajno

At the municipality level is the Pupy nature reserve. It protects a mixed old-growth forest with spruce, pine, pedunculate oak and beech. The beech grows there outside its natural range and was introduced on historic experimental plots. There is a forest car park and a signpost to the nature trail at the reserve. In addition, the northern and eastern parts of the Gmina Świętajno lie within the continuous forest complex of the Puszcza Piska.

The Lake Ciche forest nature trail is also part of the route network at the municipality level. It is 4 kilometres long and leads from the Spychowo Forest District office by Lake Spychowskie to Lake Ciche. The stated start and end points provide the route with its own orientation: it begins at a forest district office and leads from one lake to another.

Compare routes: length, colour and mode of travel

Other routes in the Gmina differ in length and type. A 14-kilometre horse-riding and cycling route passes through Spychowo, Spychówko, Racibór and Kolonia before returning to Spychowo. For the hiking trails, it is worth looking at both the section and the total length: 10.5 kilometres of the green Szlak Tatarski lie within the municipality, and the entire trail is 28 kilometres long. For the blue Szlak im. M. Wańkowicza, the figures are 17.5 kilometres within the municipality out of a total of 55 kilometres.

For horse riders, a 16-kilometre section of the Rajd Konny (K) Ewita riding trail is designated within the Gmina Świętajno. A larger, regional horse-riding route, the Szlak konny im. Marion Dönhoff, runs from Olsztyn to Sztynort through eleven forest districts and 17 municipalities, including the Gmina Świętajno. These details distinguish a section within the municipality from a route that crosses several municipalities.

History in Jerutki and a view of Warmia-Masuria

At the municipality level, the Church of Saint Maximilian Kolbe in Jerutki also offers a historical landmark. It was built in 1743 and extended in 1820–1821; the bell tower was added during this extension.

The Masurian Landscape Park lies in the southeast of the Warmia-Masuria Voivodeship, within the wider travel region. It encompasses forests, open agricultural land and surface waters in three counties and seven municipalities. The park was established in December 1977 to preserve the area's natural, cultural and historical values for science, education and tourism. The Warmia-Masuria Voivodeship also has more than 3,000 lakes and other bodies of water, each with an area of more than one hectare. This provides a regional context for travel planning, separate from the specific landmarks at Lake Świętajno.
