Kalisz Pomorski: Lakes, Architecture and Tradition

Kalisz Pomorski combines a landscape shaped by lakes with distinctive reminders of the town’s history and lively local traditions. An oval “Grzybek”-type water tower stands by the railway station. It was built towards the end of the 19th century, probably around 1888. Its distinctive design features a tank that projects far outwards and a conical roof with a raised skylight. The date is approximate: the tower is dated to around 1888, not to a precisely confirmed year of construction.

The classicist Church of Matki Bożej Królowej Polski represents a different era. It was built from 1772 to 1781, after a major fire struck the town and the medieval church was demolished. The water tower and church thus represent very different chapters in the town’s architectural history.

Another named landmark is the “Ogórek Beczuś” sculpture, located by the town hall. A further motif commemorating Beczuś can be found at the beach: a mural dedicated to him was painted on a wall almost 100 metres long. Both works feature the same name in different local settings.

A restored Kamień szlifierski was returned to its former location in the copse by Lake Młyńskie. It stands along the Leśna Ścieżka Edukacyjna. Together with the water tower, church, sculpture and mural, it adds to the varied picture of local attractions—from historic architecture to newer public artworks and a restored object.

Jarmark Ogórkowy and Local Tradition

The annual Jarmark Ogórkowy has been a local tradition since 2005. The festival includes cooking demonstrations and craft workshops.
