Lake, River and Palace

In the southern part of Maciejewo, a 19th-century palace stands right on the shore of Lake Lechickie, surrounded by a park. In the western part of the village, the Stepnica flows out of the same lake. This identifies two distinct local landmarks: the palace is located on the southern shore, while the river flows out in the west. This distinction is useful for orientation because the lake is associated both with the location of a historic estate and with the course of a river. The connection to water is therefore specific, but not limited to a single point in the village.

Church and Historical Remembrance

In 1868, Wilhelm Karol Fleming had a stone church built in Maciejewo at a different location from the earlier church. The older building was a half-timbered church; it was dismantled. The churchyard cemetery surrounding it was also closed. The design, location and closure of the former churchyard are therefore part of the same local history: this was a change, not a renovation of the half-timbered church at its former site.

Another historical memory is associated with a park in Maciejewo. In 1909, the von Flamming family had a memorial stone erected there. It was intended to commemorate the family’s claimed 700 years of presence in Pomerania. The date and the 700 years serve different purposes: 1909 marks the erection of the stone, while 700 years reflects the content of the family’s commemorative statement.

The two historical subjects therefore differ both in what they concern and in their geographical scope. The church history describes a structural change within Maciejewo; the memorial stone recalls the family’s claimed presence in Pomerania. A specific local history and a family remembrance with a regional focus thus come together.

Cycling Route and Terrain

The “Równina Nowogardzka” cycling route passes through Maciejewo; further afield, it also passes through the municipalities of Nowogard, Osina, Maszewo and Dobra. This wider reach makes Maciejewo one point on a longer route. For travellers who want to combine cycling with discovering several places, the route provides a specific regional framework. A route description published in 2013 notes both flat sections and climbs. The elevation profile therefore includes both; when assessing the route, do not consider only the flat stretches.

Most of the route is asphalt. There are also sections with cobblestones, as well as firm and sandy field and forest tracks. This information complements the elevation profile with a different planning consideration: it describes the surface, not the gradients.
