Stary Borek has 30 buildings with heritage features recorded in the register maintained by the responsible heritage conservation authority. One specific example is the residential and farm building at No. 26: it dates from the early 19th century and is considered the most valuable of the buildings there. The architectural theme can therefore be viewed from two perspectives: through the built environment as an expression of pre-war Pomeranian architecture, and through a single, dated building with a named building type.
Kolberg: Coast, Nature, and More Architectural Heritage
The wider travel destination of Kolberg offers additional landscapes. The Kołobrzeg municipality encompasses coastal dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt marshes, and river valleys. Sphagnum mosses and marsh vegetation grow in the raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo, where insectivorous plants are also found. This diversity of nature offers a different focus from the architectural history and cycling route that distinguish Stary Borek.
Dźwirzyno Beach is a broad, sandy stretch of coast bordered by dunes and pine forest, making it suitable for walks and shaded relaxation. During the bathing season, it has supervised beach areas, food stalls, changing rooms, and toilets. Some access points have been adapted for strollers and people with reduced mobility. The seasonal context is important when planning a beach visit.
Activities also vary: three Nordic walking routes of differing difficulty run along the beaches and through the coastal forest in Grzybowo and Dźwirzyno. The 55 km Wokół Jeziora Resko route runs mostly through the Kołobrzeg municipality and also enters the neighboring Trzebiatów municipality. At Dźwirzyno harbor, formerly a fishing harbor and now a fishing and tourism harbor, coastal sailing, fishing trips, and sea excursions in small boats are other options to consider when planning a trip.
Kolberg also offers a regional comparison for architecture enthusiasts: the hunting palace in Budzistowo was built in the eclectic style around the turn of the 20th century. The Neo-Gothic church in Korzystno dates from 1866, and the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Karcino from 1869. These buildings offer a different perspective from the image of pre-war Pomeranian architecture in Stary Borek.
