Zieleniewo: Ironworking and Manor Park
Accommodation in Zieleniewo
Zieleniewo combines medieval ironworking with historic buildings and a former manor park. The village’s history also includes Pomeranian landowners and the production of bricks from local clay. These different layers of history make the village particularly interesting to travelers interested in history and rural architecture.
Medieval Ironworking and Local History
In the Middle Ages, Zieleniewo was considered an ironworking center for Kołobrzeg (Kolberg). Bog iron ore was mined in the meadows along the Parsęta and smelted in bloomery furnaces. The historical context therefore encompasses both the mining of the ore and its processing. The Pomeranian families Bork and Schlieffen owned estates in Zieleniewo. Bricks were also made from local clay. Together, these details represent different aspects of the village’s history: ironworking, estate ownership and brick production.
Cemetery and Historic Buildings
Zieleniewo has an Evangelical cemetery dating from the mid-19th century. The farmhouse at number 15 also dates from this period. The barn at number 38 was built in the first half of the 19th century; the farmhouse at number 45 dates from the second half. These dates distinguish the three rural buildings chronologically. The condition of historic buildings is not always good.
The Former Manor Park
The former manor park in Zieleniewo is located on ul. Szczecińska. It was probably created toward the end of the 19th century. Rows of oak and lime trees remain; the paths are barely discernible. The surviving rows of trees and the barely perceptible paths shape the park’s recorded description, though they do not indicate that a complete network of paths has been preserved.
