Porost: Cycling Routes, Lake and Church History

A cycling route in Porost leads to Lake Chlewo Wielkie, while another passes through the village. There is also a nature trail near Porost, a nature reserve east of the village and a varied church history. Cycling Routes with Different Destinations

The “Rezerwat Buczyna” cycling route leads to Lake Chlewo Wielkie in Porost. The lake has a bathing area with sanitary facilities, tourist infrastructure and food and drink options. This gives the route a specific waterside destination. If you would like to combine cycling with a visit to a bathing area, this route is an obvious choice when planning your trip. The lake is not just a landmark at the end of the route: the existing infrastructure and food and drink options are also among the described features of the destination.

The Greenway–Naszyjnik Północy also passes through Porost. Along the route, the trail runs through forests and along their edges, past fields and directly through villages. The Jezioro Piekiełko nature reserve lies 2.5 km east of Porost and protects a lobelia lake with relict plants. This is a different natural attraction from Lake Chlewo Wielkie: Jezioro Piekiełko is the protected area east of the village, while Chlewo Wielkie is in Porost and is the destination of the “Rezerwat Buczyna” cycling route. Church History Across Two Periods

The present-day church in Porost dates from the 19th century. It was built entirely anew in 1867 as a Protestant church at a new location. After 1945, it was taken over by the Roman Catholic Church. These details bring together a new building at a new site and its later takeover by a different church.

An older, probably medieval church in Porost represents another historical period. Its bell, cast in 1583, remained there until 1945. The new church of 1867 and the bell from the older church therefore point to different periods in the village’s history; the recorded date for the bell ends in 1945.
