Dziki Among Lakes, Trails and History

Dziki combines a lake-dotted setting with hiking and cycling trails and a layered village history. The village was established on a moraine hill between Lakes Dzicze and Remierzewo, in marshy, wooded terrain. The Landscape Around Dziki

Lake Dzicze lies at the foot of the village. It is 141.6 metres above sea level, covers 14.5 hectares and is 2.8 metres deep. Dziki was established between Lakes Dzicze and Remierzewo; Dzicze lies directly below the village. If you like to consider lakes and a village’s surroundings together when choosing a destination, this setting is a distinctive starting point for exploring the area.

The Płytnica River is also part of the picture. It flows through Lake Dzicze, which lies at the foot of the village. Lakes Dzicze, Rymierzewo, Przełęg and Kniewo form a canoe route. In addition to the hiking and cycling trails, waterways are therefore another focus in the area.

Hiking and Cycling

The red-marked Szlak Wzniesień Moreny Czołowej hiking trail passes through Dziki and is 161 kilometres long in total. It first goes around Lake Dzicze and then leads into the village. This sequence is useful when finding your way around: both the lake and the village are part of the route as described. Check the local trail markers before setting out.

Cyclists also have a named route to follow: Dziki lies on the yellow-marked “Zaczarowane Pejzaże” cycling trail, which is 51.7 kilometres long. The routes differ both in activity and overall length: the red trail is described as a 161-kilometre hiking route, while the yellow one is a 51.7-kilometre cycling route. Village History and Traces of the Past

According to tradition, the Dziki settlement was founded in 1560 by a man named Schulte from Czarne. The settlement was intended to protect the salt route that then ran through the area. This historical connection adds another dimension to the village’s setting: Dziki can be explored not only through its lakes and trails, but also through its former role in the landscape.

A settlement site called “osada Dziki” is located in the village. The school building is another distinctive architectural trace. A Christian cross is still set into the brick façade at its gable. The building remains almost unchanged; it probably existed long before 1900.
