Discover Zaniemysl by Lake Raczyńskie
Accommodation in Zaniemysl
Zaniemyśl offers several different focuses for a trip: the shore of Lake Raczyńskie, a narrow-gauge railway and places of remembrance. The bathing area is by the lake; the Powiatowa Kolejka Wąskotorowa connects Zaniemyśl with Środa Wielkopolska. The history of the region can also be encountered in the station building and at historic sites in the town. If you are looking for hotels in Zaniemysl, these themes can help you choose the focus of your trip—whether you are primarily interested in the lake, railway history or local places of remembrance.

Lake Raczyńskie: plan the bathing area and island separately
Zaniemyśl lies on the shore of Lake Raczyńskie. The bathing area in Zaniemyśl was revitalized in 2023 as a place for recreation, leisure and tourism. The project also created a shelter for renting water equipment. So the lake offers both the bathing area and the rental facilities built for it—two specific things to consider if water is part of your travel plans.
Wyspa Edwarda is also located on Lake Raczyńskie. The island is currently inaccessible to visitors because the footbridge between the island and the mainland cannot be used. If you are planning to visit the island, check in advance whether access arrangements have changed. This helps distinguish the island from the experiences at the lake that can actually be planned.
Narrow-gauge railway and station
The Powiatowa Kolejka Wąskotorowa is a narrow-gauge railway attraction connecting Środa Wielkopolska with Zaniemyśl. These two towns mark the railway’s route; its role as an attraction makes railway history a distinct theme for a trip. The Zaniemyśl station building also houses a memorial room about the narrow-gauge railway and railway history.
A railway shop operates in the former station waiting room on weekend days when trains are running. It sells souvenirs, light snacks and drinks. Train operations are therefore a practical consideration if you want to visit the shop specifically; check the service schedule for your chosen date.
The station thus caters to two different interests: the narrow-gauge railway offers an attraction—a journey between the towns mentioned—while the memorial room focuses on the history of the line and of railways. These are independent reasons to explore Zaniemyśl beyond the lakeshore.
Places of remembrance and art
A former Jewish cemetery was probably established towards the end of the 18th century in the woods along what is now Chmielniki Street. A lapidarium was created at the former cemetery in 2014. It consists of sandstone fragments of gravestones bearing Hebrew and German inscriptions. Its location and fragments give the site a tangible connection to Zaniemyśl’s Jewish history.
Another historical detail is Edward Raczyński’s grave at the west wall of the church. A statue of Hygieia stands there, with facial features corresponding to those of Konstancja Raczyńska. The grave, its location and the statue bring together funerary remembrance and an artistic detail at this site. Together with the lapidarium, it shows that alongside the lake and railway, Zaniemyśl also preserves different traces of the town’s history.
