Czarnków combines the Noteć river landscape with historic buildings, events and opportunities for active days. The river is the town’s most important landscape feature. This offers several starting points for planning your trip: you may be interested in a kayaking trip, the riverside cycling route, a glimpse into the town’s history or a stay during one of its recurring festivals.

Noteć, Kayaking and Cycling Route

A kayaking trip on the Noteć can begin at Czarnków Marina. The landing stage is near the town centre and the river valley landscape. This makes it possible to plan an activity on the water as a central part of your stay. If you prefer to explore the town on foot or by bicycle, you’ll find a promenade by the Noteć that connects to a cycling route along the river.

The cycling route in Czarnków is part of the larger Nadnotecka Cyklostrada. Another specific reference point for planning a trip is the blue hiking trail from Czarnków to Goraj: it is 9 kilometres long. The river landscape, promenade and cycling route offer a different focus from the blue hiking trail to Goraj.

Architectural History and Places of Remembrance

The historic buildings include the late-Gothic parish church of St Mary Magdalene. It was built from 1580 to 1586 at the initiative of the Czarnkowski family, of the Nałęcz coat of arms. The building offers a way to explore the town’s history through a specific period and a family associated with it by name.

The Czarnkowski Bridge can also be viewed from two perspectives: it is an active road connection across the Noteć, linking the two riverbanks and two parts of the town. At the same time, it is one of Czarnków’s most valuable technical monuments. Here, history is represented not only by a historic building, but also by a crossing that is still in use.

An authentic T-34 tank stands on Kościuszki Street as a memorial to the events of 1945 and Czarnków’s wartime history. Another part of the town’s architectural heritage can be seen in the preserved buildings of the historic brewery. The history of brewing goes back further than these surviving buildings. The Muzeum Ziemi Czarnkowskiej is housed in a restored former Prussian school building dating from the late 19th century.

Another well-known landmark is the former “Pod Grzybkiem” ski jump. The last competitions there took place more than half a century ago; as a former sporting venue, the ski jump remains a symbol of the town. Together, the church, bridge, memorial, brewery buildings, museum building and former ski jump reveal different facets of local history.

Festivals and Local Produce

Dni Ziemi Czarnkowskiej is an annual festival that lasts a week. Its programme includes music, dance, art and entertainment. The duration is as relevant to your itinerary as its annual recurrence; check the specific event dates before travelling.

Dzień Spieczonego Bliźniaka has its own date in the events calendar: it takes place every year on the last Saturday in August. The event brings together twins, triplets, quadruplets and quintuplets with their families and friends; participants come from across Poland and from abroad. Natural foods from local producers are available at the Agro-Targi. Alongside the cultural programme and gatherings, locally produced goods are therefore also a focus of an event day.

Park and Activities in Town

The park named after Stanisława Staszic offers a quieter contrast to the river routes and events. Visitors can go for a walk, pause by the fountain or relax in the shade of the trees and spend time with family. A quest exploring Czarnków’s natural attractions also starts at the graduation tower in the town park. The park and quest offer a different focus from town explorations centred more strongly on architectural history.

If you prefer wheeled activities, the skatepark has ramps, run-ups and technical features. You can practise basic manoeuvres as well as advanced tricks there. When choosing where to stay in Czarnków, you can therefore consider whether you want to shape your trip around the river landscape, historic sites, an event date or activities in the park and skatepark. Different interests lead to different focuses, without any one of them fully describing the town.
