In Kościan, a strong focus on landscape parks and historic buildings goes hand in hand with activities by the water. General Dezydery Chłapowski Landscape Park was established in 1992 and covers 17,323.21 hectares. Cycling and walking routes in the Landscape Park

The cycling educational trail “Trees with History, Birds of the Present” is 28.5 km long and has seven stops. Its route passes through Racot, Darnowo, Wyskoć, Rogaczewo Małe and Rogaczewo Wielkie, Rąbiń, Turew, Stary Gołębin and Spytkówki, before returning to Racot. The route length and sequence of places give you a concrete framework for planning a day of cycling. The trail’s title puts trees with history and birds of the present at its heart.

A second educational trail is shorter: the ecological trail runs from Rogaczewo Małe through Rogaczewo Wielkie and Rąbiń to Turew. It is 12 km long and also has seven stops. When choosing between the two routes, you can start by using their different lengths and the places listed as a guide. A section of the Greater Poland Way of St. James runs through the Landscape Park; the park is also on the route of the “Travels with Mr. Tadeusz” walking trail. For Kościan County, the Kościan branch of PTTK maintains a map of the walking trails it oversees. Other organizations also mark routes there, including the Ziemiański cycling route.

Residences and historic churches

In Racot, the palace, park and manor complex is a destination for travelers interested in historic architectural ensembles. It was built in the late 18th century and the second half of the 19th century. Another chapter in its history began in 1921, when the palace became the summer residence of the Presidents of the Republic of Poland. In Turew, a Baroque residence was remodeled in the Neo-Gothic style in the first half of the 19th century. The two places offer different perspectives on architectural history: one is a complex that took shape over several periods, the other a residence that was transformed.

The churches also differ in age and building history. The historic wooden Church of the Assumption of Mary in Stary Gołębin dates from the second half of the 17th century. The historic wooden Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Błociszewo dates from 1736. In Lubiń, the Church of St. Leonard was built as a small Romanesque church at the beginning of the 13th century; it was remodeled in the Gothic style in 1549–1556. There is also a larch chapel in the Zakopane style in Rąbiński Forest. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century in memory of a fatal hunting accident. For an architecture-focused outing, you can distinguish these buildings by location and by their individual histories.

Kościan and activities by the water

Kościan offers several different reasons to visit: the water tower now serves as a climbing wall and astronomical observatory. A 15-hectare park with numerous walking paths adds opportunities for a more relaxed outdoor visit. There are several kayak launch sites along the Kościański Canal. When planning your trip, you can choose whether you are more interested in a walk, a visit to the water tower or an activity on the water.

In Cichowo, there is a supervised bathing beach with a designated swimming area for children. Those who want to include water activities in their holiday plans will find a different focus here from the cycling and walking routes or historic buildings.
