Sugar factory and historic complex

The sugar factory in Opalenica was founded in 1883. Its historic buildings retain a clearly recognisable form and distinctive architectural details. The complex’s history also includes the director’s villa: dating from 1884, it is surrounded by a garden and forms an integral part of the historic sugar factory complex. This means the industrial history can be explored not only through its founding date, but also through the surviving buildings and how they belong together.

Sporting opportunities and historical walks

In 2023, the sports complex at the Municipal Stadium included a football and athletics stadium, five tennis courts and two sports halls. It also featured a 300-metre synthetic running track, which was also used by recreational runners. Fragments of the former Opalenica narrow-gauge railway and traces of its route offer a distinct theme for historical walks. The railway no longer exists in its original form; the traces that remain are part of the town’s history. In the historic centre, the former secondary school building is also located next to the Church of St Matthew. It is considered an important example of public architecture. Its former use and location beside the church give the building a clear historical context.
