Nekla offers a range of points of interest for a trip focused on history and landscape. The parish church of St. Andrew showcases sacred architecture and craftsmanship; the manor house ensemble and its park offer a different perspective on the town’s history. Construction dates, furnishings transferred from the earlier church and the park’s development provide concrete foundations for exploring each of these topics. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus more on church art, architecture or natural monuments.

The Church of St. Andrew

Construction of the new parish church of St. Andrew began in September 1899. It was consecrated on 21 June 1901. These two dates mark the start and completion of the building’s history within a relatively short period. To understand the church, its clearly documented chronology is just as important as its appearance.

The interior contains three Baroque altars, a pulpit and a Rococo baptismal font. These furnishings were transferred from the earlier church. The move to a new building therefore did not mean that the older furnishings were all left behind: the altars, pulpit and baptismal font connect today’s church with its predecessor. The different style labels also show that the furnishings do not belong to a single artistic style.

There is also a distinctive work of art on the exterior: the façade features a stone Passion group by the Poznań artist Władysław Marcinkowski. The stained-glass windows were made by the Royal Art Institute in Munich. The church thus brings together different forms of art—from the transferred altars and Rococo baptismal font to the façade group and windows. For those interested in culture, Nekla offers more than a single construction period: its history can be explored through its architecture, furnishings and artistic origins.

The Manor House Ensemble and Its History

The manor house ensemble in Nekla comprises a palace, the former stable and coach house, and the surrounding park. The description therefore covers both the representative building and a former service building, as well as the landscaped grounds. The manor house in Nekla was built around 1870 in the eclectic style. The term describes a design that brings together elements from different styles, offering a distinct way to understand the house’s architecture.

Another historical layer is the former stable and coach house. It was converted in the 1980s for the Nekielski Ośrodek Kultury (Nekla Cultural Centre).

The Park’s History and Natural Monuments

The park around the manor house ensemble covers 17.33 hectares. Its history reflects a change in garden and landscape design: a French garden became an English landscape park. This transformation is another reason to visit, since the park’s history is about not only its size but also how it has changed over time. Together, the park and manor house ensemble represent two connected aspects of Nekla’s local history: buildings and landscape design.

More than 3,500 deciduous and coniferous trees and shrubs grow in the park. Its natural monuments include European larches, oaks and black alders. The Józefinka pear tree, more than 200 years old, brings the description into particularly sharp focus. Alongside its size, these trees and the ancient pear give the park a distinctive natural character. When planning a trip and choosing between cultural history and landscape, visitors to Nekla can therefore explore different themes: the church’s furnishings and works of art, the history of the manor house ensemble, or the park’s history and natural monuments.
