Churches and historic landmarks
The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary stands on a hill above Lake Księże. Its classical features and altar in the Baroque tradition, dating from around 1800, bring together two distinct periods of design. Its position above the lake provides a distinctive spatial connection. If you are interested in architecture, this building offers a tangible starting point for exploring Serock’s religious architectural history.
The former Protestant Church of the Transfiguration represents a different era. It was built in 1873 in the Neo-Gothic style and contains Baroque furnishings. Comparing it with the Church of the Immaculate Conception shows just how different the styles and furnishings of two Serock churches can be: one has classical features and an altar in the Baroque tradition dating from around 1800, while the other is a Neo-Gothic building from 1873 with Baroque furnishings. These differences give your cultural walk a clear historical and design framework.
Serock’s Volunteer Fire Brigade is also connected with the history of a notable historic object: it owns a hand-operated fire engine made by G.A Jauck in Leipzig in 1887. The engine was entered in the monument register of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in 2013 and restored and made fully operational again in 2015–2016. At the railway station, a listed water tower from the early 1930s adds to these historic landmarks. Lake Księże and the nature trail
On the village side of Lake Księże, there is a spot for campfires and picnics, as well as benches, tables and a beach volleyball court. The lake is therefore not only the spatial reference point above the church, but also part of the leisure opportunities described along its shore.
The “Serock na pograniczu” nature trail covers topics relating to nature and history. Its three information boards focus on different groups of birds in Serock, as well as various historical periods and building complexes. In this way, the trail connects information about birds with the town’s history.
