The Way of St. James runs through Izdby from Gozdawa toward Duszno. In nearby Duszno, the route passes the Church of St. Dorothy and a historic blacksmith’s workshop from the 19th century. Further afield in the region, a section of the Way of St. James from Mogilno to Gniezno, via Trzemeszno and Niechanowo, was officially opened on April 20, 2007. This date adds a historical perspective on the route in the region to its local connection.
Culture in the wider travel destination of Mogilno
The post-Benedictine monastery (Klasztor pobenedyktyński) and its church were built by Benedictines in the 11th century in Mogilno, on a small hill on the northeastern shore of Lake Mogileńskie. The church retains its original form as a Romanesque basilica, complemented by Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque accents. The western crypt is described as one of only three of its kind in Europe. The building thus brings together a Romanesque structure and later architectural elements.
Another architectural landmark is the Fara – Church of St. James the Apostle (kościół św. Jakuba Apostoła) in Mogilno: the single-nave Gothic church dates from 1511. Its main altar features an 18th-century painting of St. James the Greater. The church and altarpiece therefore belong to different centuries; the historical interest here ranges from the Gothic building to the later depiction of the saint.

At the Mogilno Land Museum (Muzeum Ziemi Mogileńskiej), the permanent exhibition “The History of the Mogilno Land” (“Dzieje ziemi mogileńskiej”) brings together guild documents and historical banners from 1919, 1923, 1927, 1929, and 1946. Another exhibition, “Prehistory of the Mogilno Land” (“Pradzieje ziemi mogileńskiej”), features tools as well as everyday and ritual objects. Its timeline spans the Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age, through the Middle Ages and into modern times. An additional exhibition explores the region’s folk culture and folk art, crafts, and the everyday lives of its residents. The subjects thus range from early objects and rituals to documents, banners, and daily life.
The town park with its summer amphitheater and fountain (Park miejski z amfiteatrem letnim i fontanną) is in the center of Mogilno. Its features include a fountain, as well as renovated paths with new lighting. The summer amphitheater has 300 seats and is used for concerts and outdoor events in summer. If you are planning to attend a concert, check the event dates in advance.
Two suggested routes in Mogilno differ mainly in length and course. TRASA nr 8 (MDW) is about 14 km long, runs around Lake Wiecanowskie, and starts and ends in Mogilno. The approximately 28 km-long TRASA nr 1 (MSK) connects Mogilno with Kalwaria Mogileńska, then returns to Mogilno. One is a loop around the lake, while the other is a route there and back via Kalwaria. Neither route is currently marked; take this into account when planning.
