Mielenko

A cycling route proposed by the Mogilno municipality passes through Mielenko: No. 6 (MMM) is about 35 kilometres long and is currently unmarked. The distance refers to the entire route. For your planning, this means taking the lack of markings into account when finding your way, rather than assuming it is a signposted tour.

Further along its regional route, the cycling route also passes the beach in Kopczyn, the beach in Józefowo and the viewpoint in Wieniec. The proposal thus connects Mielenko with other named stops along the regional route.

Churches and History in Mogilno

Mogilno’s architectural history can be traced through two churches from different periods. The Fara - kościół św. Jakuba Apostoła is a Gothic church dating from 1511. Its main altar features a painting of Saint James the Elder from the 18th century. The Klasztor pobenedyktyński and its church were built by Benedictine monks in the 11th century on a small hill on the northeastern shore of Jezioro Mogileńskie. The church retains its original form as a Romanesque basilica, with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque features. The western crypt is considered one of only three crypts of its kind in Europe.

Exhibitions and the City Park

The Muzeum Ziemi Mogileńskiej presents several distinct aspects of regional history. The permanent exhibition “Dzieje ziemi mogileńskiej” includes guild documents and historic banners from 1919, 1923, 1927, 1929 and 1946. The exhibition “Pradzieje ziemi mogileńskiej” spans the period from the Neolithic through the Bronze and Iron Ages to the Middle Ages and modern times. Items on display include tools, everyday objects and ritual objects. Another exhibition is dedicated to regional folk culture and folk art, crafts, and the everyday lives of the region’s inhabitants. The collection thus ranges from early material evidence to traditions and daily life.

The Park miejski z amfiteatrem letnim i fontanną is in the centre of Mogilno. The park includes a fountain, as well as renewed paths with new lighting. The summer amphitheatre has 300 seats and is used for concerts and outdoor events in summer. The park offers a different focus from the churches and museum: here, paths, public space and summer events take centre stage, without implying any particular event date.

Comparing Cycling Routes

For a comparison of route types, there are two other proposed routes in Mogilno. TRASA nr 8 (MDW) is about 14 kilometres long, circles Jezioro Wiecanowskie, and starts and ends in Mogilno. TRASA nr 1 (MSK) is about 28 kilometres long, links Mogilno with Kalwaria Mogileńska and then returns to Mogilno. These proposed routes are also currently unmarked. No. 8 is the shorter loop around the lake; No. 1 is a longer route to a named stop and back. By contrast, the approximately 35-kilometre route No. 6 is specifically linked to Mielenko and continues to the regional stops mentioned above.

For your planning, the proposed routes therefore differ in both length and course: a loop around the lake, a connection to Kalwaria Mogileńska, and a route through Mielenko with additional stops. Take their status as unmarked proposed routes into account when finding your way if you choose these routes for your trip.
