Sułkowice brings together several very different local histories: a chapel dating from 1984, memories of a Poor Clare manor house, and Źródełko, which played a role both in the area’s former water supply and as a summer destination. There is also a provincial road and a bus route to consider when planning your journey. If you are looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Sułkowice, these themes can help you choose what interests you and plan your trip accordingly.

Chapel, manor house and local traditions

The Chapel of Our Lady of Ostra Brama was built in 1984. A decision to expand it was made in the late 1970s, and the work was completed in 1984. Thus, the chapel’s construction and the completion of the expansion work both took place in the same year, while the decision dates from earlier. Mass is celebrated in the chapel on Sundays and public holidays. Its construction history and Mass times give the chapel a clear place in the religious history of the area.

A manor house in Sułkowice belonged to the Poor Clares. It burned down, and only its foundations remain. According to local tradition, Blessed Salomea lived in the former manor house, followed later by Saint Kinga. Another local legend says that Poor Clare nuns travelled through Sułkowice with Kinga and that Kinga brought forth a spring by striking the ground with her staff. These are two distinct stories: local tradition connects the women with the manor house, while the legend explains the spring’s origin.

Archaeological site 1 is also part of the area’s history: it is a Neolithic settlement. Neolithic means belonging to the New Stone Age, placing the settlement in a much earlier period than the chapel and the local traditions surrounding the manor house. Sułkowice’s historical traces therefore range from a prehistoric settlement to religious traditions and a 20th-century building.

Źródełko: former water supply and a summer destination

Źródełko is recommended as a destination for a summer outing. Local residents cleaned up the pond around the spring, and it is now enjoyed by the local community as well as tourists. Before Sułkowice had a water supply network, the spring supplied the residents. Źródełko therefore offers two very different perspectives: its former everyday function and the pond’s present-day importance to residents and visitors.

Plan your journey

For travel by car, Provincial Road No. 773 (Sienieczno–Wesoła) is a useful point of reference: it runs through Sułkowice. Bus route 5 connects Iwanowice Dworskie, Sułkowice and Michałowice. This gives you two different transport options to consider: a named road and a bus connection between three places. Check the latest timetable for route 5 before travelling, as timetables can change.
