In Jawornik, churches, chapels and a monument tell of different chapters in the area's history. The location on the upper reaches of the Głogoczówka and the Jawornik Syberia bus stop also serve as reference points. If you would like to shape your stay around traces of the past, Jawornik offers specific themes ranging from the medieval parish register to events of the 20th century. Myślenice provides the broader destination context; its hiking trails and attractions should be considered separately.

Churches and Chapels with a History of Their Own

The three-storey tower of the church “Kościół Parafialny pw. Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego” is listed as a monument. A second, wooden parish church, “Kościół Parafialny pw. Znalezienia i Podwyższenia Krzyża św.”, dates from the 17th century. It was moved to Kraków-Krzesławice in 1982. The tower, enclosure and surrounding trees remained at its former site. The two churches therefore tell different local stories: one has a listed tower, while the original site of the other recalls a wooden building that was relocated.

The history of Jawornik parish is also documented at an early date: the church tax register of 1325 lists it together with its priest, ks. Mikołaj.

At the cemetery entrance stands a freestanding wayside chapel with a statue of Saint Stanislaus on a plinth erected in 1907. Its inscription recalls the old church of Saint Stanislaus, which burned down on 2 June 1904. It also states that the statue was erected on 8 May 1907 with contributions from the local parish community. Another chapel story passed down through the generations concerns Bugaj in Jawornik: in 1908, the Feliks family had a chapel built there in gratitude for their daughter Anna's recovery from an illness. In spring 2002, residents of Bugaj rebuilt the chapel at its original site.

Memorial Sites in Jawornik

The monument to the murdered residents stands at the site of the crime, on the road towards Sułkowice. It bears the names of the twelve people killed there on 6 April 1944. The site thus commemorates not only a date but also preserves the victims' names. For anyone exploring Jawornik's history, this memorial is one of the area's solemn and enduring reminders.

Hiking Trails and Culture in the Broader Myślenice Destination

The broader Myślenice destination offers several routes of varying lengths for longer hikes. The yellow trail from Myślenice via Dalin and Pisania to Sułkowice is 13.5 kilometres long and is listed as taking 3 hours and 45 minutes. The red trail via Działek, Kudłacze and Łysina to Jaworzyce covers 15.5 kilometres and takes 6 hours. Comparing the two helps with time planning: the shorter of the described routes is also listed with a shorter duration. Another red route runs from Myślenice via Sularzówka, Trzebuńska Góra, Babica, Bieńkowska Góra and Końcówka to Palcza; the one-way distance is given as 20.5 kilometres, with a duration of 5 hours and 45 minutes.

Myślenice's cultural history is also a distinct part of this broader destination. Its historic urban layout is considered a valuable monument at regional and national level and preserves traces of a settlement that predated the medieval town's founding. The Church of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Myślenice was built in the mid-15th century; an early Baroque chapel was added between 1642 and 1646. It houses a miraculous image painted in Italy in the 16th century, which became the destination of numerous pilgrimages. The Sanctuary's main feast is held on 8 September; from May to October, nighttime Fatima devotions with vigils are also held on the 13th of each month. These cultural and hiking opportunities belong to Myślenice and complement Jawornik's own church and local history without replacing them.
