Myślenice: Hiking, City History and the Raba Riverbank

Compare hiking trails by distance and duration

For your hiking plans, you can compare several trails by length and duration. The red hiking trail runs from Myślenice via Działek, Kudłacze and Łysina to Jaworzyce. It is 15.5 kilometres long and takes six hours. The yellow hiking trail runs from Myślenice via Dalin and Pisania to Sułkowice. At 13.5 kilometres, it is two kilometres shorter than the route to Jaworzyce; its stated duration is also two hours and 15 minutes less, at three hours and 45 minutes.

Another red hiking route runs from Myślenice via Sularzówka, Trzebuńska Góra, Babica, Bieńkowska Góra and Końcówka to Palcza. It is 20.5 kilometres long and takes five hours and 45 minutes one way. The Małopolska Papal Trail also runs through Powiat myślenicki, along the Sułkowice–Myślenice section and the county boundary via Luboń Wielki and Szczebel.

Nature and trails along the Raba River

The Raba riverbank area in the Zarabie district has been transformed into a well-equipped recreational park with numerous walking and cycling paths. Here, the focus is on paths along the riverbank, while the longer hiking trails offer specific distances and durations to choose from. You can plan your day according to whether you have a designated hiking route or the riverside recreation area in mind.

A circular route around Myślenice leads at its summit to an observation tower, a private astronomical observatory and the upper station of the ski lift. A restaurant is open at this station. Another place of natural and historical interest lies at the foot of the slopes of Chełm: the Zamczysko nad Rabą nature reserve and the ruins of a medieval castle are located there. The approach along Zamkowa Street takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

City history and the sanctuary

The historic urban layout of Myślenice is a good example of a medieval town plan. It preserves remnants of the settlement that existed before the town was founded; regionally and nationally, the urban layout is considered a valuable monument. The town plan thus brings together traces from before the town’s founding and a medieval structure.

The church of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Myślenice was built in the mid-15th century and received an Early Baroque chapel in 1642–1646. The sanctuary houses a miraculous image painted in Italy in the 16th century, which became the destination of numerous pilgrimages. The sanctuary’s main feast day is September 8. In addition, from May to October, nocturnal Fatima devotions with vigils are held there on the 13th day of each month.
