Discover Bukowno

Bukowno combines striking landscapes with a glimpse into regional history. At Diabla Góra, a viewpoint, ancient beech trees and Triassic limestone formations come together. If you enjoy adding some activity to your trip, there is also a marked educational trail and cycling routes with varied conditions.

Diabla Góra and the Sztoła

Diabla Góra lies 383 metres above sea level, and its viewpoint offers views across the surrounding area. Its slopes are covered by a beech forest more than 250 years old, with Triassic limestone formations below. This brings together natural and geological features in a compact area.

The history of the Sztoła is also part of Bukowno’s landscape: after the Olkusz-Pomorzany mine was closed and the drainage pumps that had previously fed the river were switched off, the water level fell. The section of the watercourse in Bukowno disappeared. The Trias Cave is also located at Diabla Góra. Because it is difficult and dangerous, it is accessible only to experienced cavers.

Marked trail and cycling routes

A blue- and green-marked educational trail at Diabla Góra is about 6.8 kilometres long. It takes visitors to the area’s geological and natural features. Its approximate length and markings provide a guide for planning; check the condition of the trails before setting out.

A longer cycling route runs for 38 kilometres from Rabsztyn via Troks, Zimnodół, Żurada and Bukowno to Olkusz. About 8.5 kilometres of this route pass through the Gmina Bukowno. Around Olkusz, the route connects with other cycle paths, including the Jurajski Rowerowy Szlak Orlich Gniazd and the main route through the Wyżyna Krakowsko-Częstochowska region.

For a shorter addition, a cycle path leads south towards Diabla Góra; along forest paths, it extends the route by 3.9 kilometres and is suitable for cycling. Conditions are different to the north, towards the Leśny Dwór reservoir: the route follows sandy, unpaved paths, where even pushing a bicycle is very difficult. When planning your ride, it is worth taking this difference into account when choosing your route.

Regional history at the Regionalna Sala Muzealna

The Regionalna Sala Muzealna displays minerals from Bukowno and the surrounding area, as well as everyday objects and items from the Zakłady Górniczo-Hutnicze w Bukownie. There are also exhibitions on the history of Polish money and postage stamps, reprints of newspapers from the Second World War, and documents and photographs of the city. Natural history, industrial history and different chapters of the city’s past are presented side by side.

The venue is also used for meetings with regionalists, the Klubu Literackiego „Bukowy Liść” and the Klubu Regionalistów. It also hosts regional studies and museum classes. The cultural offering therefore includes not only collections, but also opportunities to share and explore regional topics.
