Jachówka: Beskid Landscapes and Local History
Accommodation in Jachówka
Jachówka lies in the Beskids at the northern foot of Mount Makowska Góra and on the Jachówka River. Forests, diverse vegetation, and clean air shape the landscape. At the same time, the village lies on the road connecting Sucha Beskidzka and Myślenice. If you are looking for a place with a connection to the landscape and specific local cultural sites for your trip through Poland, you will find both here: nature shapes the village, while churches and chapels tell stories of different periods and forms of religious art.
Landscape and Getting Your Bearings in Jachówka
The many forests and diverse vegetation give the landscape its distinctive character. Jachówka is therefore a possible starting point for exploring the Beskids; the features described relate to the village and its landscape, not to a particular hiking route. The road connecting Sucha Beskidzka and Myślenice is also useful for getting your bearings. You can locate Jachówka on the map and then consider the local sights and the footpath as separate aspects of your planning.
Parish Church and Sacred Art
The parish church of Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa was built of brick in 1938. There are side chapels on both sides of the nave: one is dedicated to St Anthony of Padua, the other to the Holy Sepulchre. The furnishings also bring together different characteristics. The altars are finished in white and gold and display pronounced folk features as well as Baroque and Rococo elements. The wooden statues of saints date from the Second World War. For anyone interested in sacred architecture, the church offers several specific details through which its building history, dedications, and artistic design can be distinguished.
Chapels and Wayside Madonna
Other religious landmarks are spread across different fields and parts of Jachówka. A brick chapel dating from 1957 stands in the Działy field. In the Kachnicówka field is a brick chapel with an image of the Holy Trinity, a statue of the Virgin Mary, and numerous murals depicting saints. Near Głowaczówka stands a brick Marian chapel from the 20th century. Near Prymulówka, you will find a wooden cross from the early 20th century depicting the Crucified Christ. Another wayside Madonna depicts the Infant Jesus: it dates from 1830 and stands on a column decorated with reliefs of saints. These structures differ in both their form and their dates.
Footpath and Further Local Insights
The Szlak Pamięci Znanych Ludzi Gminy Budzów is a footpath with five information boards. The main board is located by the fire station and playground in Jachówka; it shows a map of the entire route and descriptions of four well-known residents. The route is estimated to take around two hours at a leisurely walking pace, although the duration may depend on trail conditions. Check the condition of the boards locally. This lets you use the approximate duration as a guide while also taking the condition of the information boards into account in your plans.
The Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Jachówka has a grass football pitch and a beach volleyball court. Another local connection is regional cuisine: KGW Jachówka took first place in the county competition for regional dishes, “O Złotą Warzechę,” in 2002, 2005, and 2007. In 2012, it came third with pierogi filled with buckwheat groats. These competition results offer a historical glimpse into local culinary tradition; they do not indicate what food is currently available. Together with the landscape, sacred buildings, and memorial trail, they provide several themes to guide your exploration of Jachówka.
