Żarnówka combines the landscapes of the Maków Beskids with insights into a long local history. The village lies in the valley of the Żarnowianka stream, a right-bank tributary of the Skawa, at the foot of the Koskowa Góra range. Beskid landscapes and views

At the northeastern edge of Żarnówka, the area reaches Koskowa Góra, which rises to 866 m. From there, views extend to the Jałowiec range and Babia Góra; in clear weather, you can also see the Tatras and Kraków. The view is therefore tied to a specific location and clear weather conditions. If you would like to make mountain scenery and distant views the focus of your trip, this is a distinctive landmark.

The forests around Żarnówka also shape its rural surroundings: they are rich in berries and mushrooms. A cycling route with named stops

A red-marked cycling route approximately 20 km long passes through Żarnówka. It connects the market square in Maków Podhalański with Głowackiego Street and 3 Maja Street, passing through the Makowska Góra settlement, Bryndzówka, Przysłopski Wierch, and Mount Koskowa. Local history and regional traditions

Żarnówka was founded towards the end of the 16th century by settlers from the Kraków and Wieliczka areas, under the supervision of royal forester Piotr Oczkowski. Home crafts are also part of its rural history: traditionally, wood was worked here to make shingles, wooden tubs, buckets, and other items. Embroidery is another local tradition. These activities give the village's history a tangible craft dimension.

Historic monuments include a stone figure of Christ the Nazarene dating from 1828. Żarnówka also has a brick chapel with a shingled roof and a sculpture of Christ falling under the cross, dating from the late 18th century. The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus adds to this picture: its cornerstone was laid in 1993 and donated by the parish priest of Wawel Cathedral, Prelate Janusz Bieleleński; the church was consecrated in 1996.

A monument commemorates partisans who were captured and executed by a German unit in 1945. Thus, alongside sacred works of art, memorial sites are also part of the history you can discover in Żarnówka.

A glimpse into local community life

The Koło Gospodyń Wiejskich in Żarnówka has been in existence since February 2003 and is based at the Dom Ludowy. The association organizes biesiady and festivals and preserves culinary traditions, regional costumes, local customs, and folk songs. These activities reveal another side of the village: alongside its landscapes and monuments, living traditions are part of its cultural identity.
