Klecza Dolna: Apilandia, Cycling Route and History
Accommodation in Klecza Dolna
Klecza Dolna offers three distinct starting points for planning a trip: Apilandia shares knowledge about bees and beekeeping, a black cycling route leads to the village, and chapels and a historic site tell stories of the past. Together, they offer engaging themes centred on bees, cycling and local history. If you are looking for accommodation in Klecza Dolna, you can choose which of these highlights to prioritise based on the kind of activities you want to shape your stay.
Bees and beekeeping at Apilandia
Apilandia in Klecza Dolna is dedicated to bees, beekeeping, the honeybee and how honey is made. Multimedia technologies, interactive installations and informative animations present these topics in a variety of formats. The exhibits cover everything from the life of the honeybee to the question of how honey is made. For anyone interested in bees and beekeeping, this is the village’s most distinctive thematic attraction.
In addition to the exhibition, Apilandia offers beekeeping workshops and an educational teaching apiary. The exhibition and other activities present the subject from different angles. Check in advance of your visit whether the Apilandia activities are currently running.
Cycling to Klecza Dolna
The black cycling route to Klecza Dolna is 9.5 kilometres long. It starts at the car park on Kościuszko Square in Wadowice and leads to the village via Karmelicka Street, Wolności Avenue, Zawadka, Jaroszowice, DK 52, Zygmunt Stary Street and Zaskawie. As route conditions can change, it is advisable to check the latest route information before setting off.
Chapels and historic landmarks
A wayside chapel built in 1872 stands by the roadside in Klecza Dolna. It is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. Opposite St Lawrence’s Church is the neo-Gothic Sławiński family chapel, built on the site of a church that burned down. The two buildings represent different aspects of local history: the wayside chapel is distinguished by its dedication and date of construction, while the family chapel stands out for its architectural style, family connection and predecessor building.
The former shooting range near the Pallottine monastery is also part of the village’s history. It was built for training purposes for the 56th Infantry Regiment of the Austro-Hungarian Army. Its historical purpose sets it apart from the chapels, whose dedication, date of construction or building history shape their connection to the area.
More things to do in the Wadowice destination
The wider Wadowice destination offers its own scenic setting: the town lies in the western part of the Wieliczka Foothills, in a basin between the foothills and the ranges of the Beskid Mały mountains, as well as in the Skawa Valley. The centre of Wadowice lies between the Skawa and the Choczenka watercourse.
Wadowice also offers cycling in different formats. The pump track has loops for beginners and advanced riders, adapted to different levels of difficulty; use is free of charge. The operating rules may change. Wadowice Trails is a network of mountain bike singletracks in the forested area of Jaroszowicka Góra. It is designed for beginners, families with children and experienced mountain bikers. Unlike the 9.5-kilometre route to Klecza Dolna, these options focus on pump-track loops and mountain-bike singletracks.
For a cultural experience in Wadowice, the museum in the Family Home of Pope John Paul II features a permanent exhibition and also welcomes visitors for individual tours. Visitors can sample Wadowice cream cake in the market square. Alongside the bee and beekeeping attractions in Klecza Dolna, the wider destination therefore also offers its own museum and food experiences.
