Tuszyn: City History, Routes and Oceanik
Accommodation in Tuszyn
Tuszyn offers landmarks in the town centre, traces of its city history, and several different routes in and around the town. Plac Reymonta is in the centre and serves as a clear point of reference for the town’s history: important civic celebrations were and are held here. The history of tram line 42 also leads to this square—but as a historical account, not as a description of a current service.
Plac Reymonta and Tuszyn’s History
The terminus of tram line 42 was established at Plac Reymonta in 1931. The line operated between Łódź and Tuszyn from 1916 to 1978. The square is also the venue for important civic celebrations, including anniversaries of the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May, the town’s Christmas celebration, and events marking Tuszyn’s 550th and 600th anniversaries. A memorial stone there also commemorates the 60th anniversary of Władysław Stanisław Reymont being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. In this central square, memories of literature, the town’s history, and community gatherings come together.
The church of the Parafia Świętego Witalisa Męczennika also tells a story of several building phases. It was built in 1860–1862 and extended in 1927 to a design by Oskar Sosnowski, in simplified Neo-Romanesque forms. Its furnishings include an old mechanical pipe organ and three bronze bells; the main altar features an image of the Virgin Mary known as Tuszyńska. Visitors interested in architecture and ecclesiastical history will find concrete details here from different periods: construction, renovation, and furnishings. The Jewish cemetery in Tuszyn is marked by a memorial stone and an information board.
City History on Foot and on the Move
The “Dzieje Tuszyna – szlakiem zabytków” questing trail runs through Tuszyn. Its name puts the town’s history and architectural monuments at the heart of the route. The Szlak Okrężny Wokół Łodzi offers a different scale: two of its stages run around Tuszyn, covering a total of 38 kilometres; the entire hiking trail is 184 kilometres long. Another route starts at Primary School No. 1 in Tuszyn and is about 28 kilometres long. These details give you different points of reference for planning, without treating the routes as equivalent. The Łódzki Szlak Konny also runs partly around Tuszyn.
The Tuszyn-Las garden city project is also part of the area’s settlement history. Four parks were planned for it: J. Piłsudskiego, J. Kilińskiego, Wolności, and Olszynki. Cultural events in the Gmina Tuszyn are organised by the Miejskie Centrum Kultury im. Wł. St. Reymonta, which hosts cultural and entertainment events. Alongside historic places, cultural activities are therefore another aspect to consider when planning your trip.
Indoor Swimming Pool and Sauna in Tuszyn
The “Oceanik” indoor swimming pool complements the historical and cultural attractions with a leisure offering. The pool complex includes a salt cave and a graduation tower, as well as a sauna area. The sauna is open from 14:00 Monday to Friday and from 10:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. At other times, a visit can be arranged in advance by telephone. If you would like to include a sauna visit in your stay, use these opening times as a guide and call ahead to arrange a visit outside them.
