Museums, Film Collection and Industrial History
The Film Museum has a collection of more than 50,000 exhibits. It continues to grow through purchases, donations, gifts and deposits. The Film Museum building is also home to the “Kinematograf” cinema. If you plan to attend a screening, check the current programme separately.
Another cultural highlight is Księży Młyn. Today, this historic complex is considered an attraction that draws tourists, artists and photographers; in 1971, it was recognised as a monument of industrial architecture. In a broader sense, Księży Młyn encompasses a historic urban area that developed up to the 1920s and includes the estates of the Scheibler and Grohman families. The name therefore also refers to a historic urban area, not just a single building.
The garden of the Museum of Łódź features a sculpture avenue with outdoor sculptures by contemporary artists from Łódź. Individual works may change. The city’s museums also extend beyond the Film Museum: Łódź has more than 20 museums. This offers a range of cultural themes to explore, from the film collection and industrial architecture to outdoor art.
Botanical Garden and Recreation in the Parks
The Botanical Garden of Łódź covers 76 hectares. It is home to more than 3,400 taxa of outdoor plants and around 2,000 taxa of greenhouse plants; these figures may change over time. During the summer season, it hosts workshops and talks about nature, exhibitions of flowering plants, and recreational, cultural and scientific events. As the programme varies by season, check the latest announcements before your visit.
Green spaces shape Łódź beyond the Botanical Garden: the city has more than 40 parks, including 11 historic parks under heritage protection. Other green spaces include the city zoo, numerous squares and green areas, newly created pocket parks, and forests. This range extends from landscaped gardens to a variety of urban open spaces.
The recreational options in the parks also differ in practical ways. Poniatowski Park offers visitors a cycling track. At Park 1 Maja, you can go pedal boating on the Stefański Ponds; check in advance when the boats are currently operating. For outdoor activities, you can choose between a cycling track and an activity on the water.

The wider Lodz destination offers further cultural and landscape themes. Oporów Castle is a small late-Gothic fortified residence on an island surrounded by a moat. The castle houses a museum with an exhibition of historic interiors, as well as collections of paintings, sculptures and decorative arts.
Łódź Heights Landscape Park offers a different perspective: it protects a hilly landscape unique to central Poland, with springs, streams and remarkable wildlife. The park has a dense network of marked hiking and cycling trails.
