Oborniki Śląskie: Nature Trails and Culture

Discover Oborniki Śląskie along nature trails, at viewpoints and through its cultural attractions. Trail lengths range from the 5 km “Na Grzybek” nature trail to the 22 km Yellow Trail. There are also landscapes in “Grzybek” Park, historic buildings and cultural offerings that include a cinema and galleries.

Trail routes starting at the railway station

The 5 km “Na Grzybek” educational nature trail runs through the city streets, “Grzybek” Forest Park and the grounds of a former Protestant cemetery. Nine stops are described on information boards. The trail starts in the square in front of the railway station and initially follows the Red Trail. Its description therefore includes both natural and urban sections, as well as the former cemetery.

The Yellow Trail also starts in the square in front of the railway station; at 22 km, it is considerably longer than “Na Grzybek.” This gives you a choice of a shorter and a much longer route. Landscape and views from “Grzybek”

“Grzybek” Landscape and Recreation Park covers more than 100 hectares. Its landscape includes meadows, forests, ravines, ponds and forest streams. This variety shapes the character of the park: open spaces sit alongside wooded areas and bodies of water. The name “Grzybek” also appears in the description of the nature trail.

At 217 m, Belweder Hill, also known as Góra Holtei'a, is the highest point in “Grzybek.” From there, you can enjoy views of Oborniki Śląskie, Wrocław (Breslau), the Ślęża Massif and the surrounding area. The viewpoint adds vistas beyond the town to the park’s landscape; when planning your visit, consider making the views a focus in their own right, alongside the trail routes.

Historic places in the townscape

Pałac Schaubertów was built in 1864–1865 on the site of a former 17th-century palace. Its architecture includes an octagonal tower. Its construction period and predecessor make the palace a notable landmark if you’d like to explore Oborniki Śląskie’s architectural history as well as its nature and landscape.

Syrena Park contains historic buildings from the former 19th-century spa resort. The park is also known for its diverse tree population. Larches there are described as natural monuments and are said to be among the largest in Lower Silesia.

Obornicki Ośrodek Kultury offers a varied cultural program for audiences of all ages. The cultural center includes Mała Galeria Fotografii Kontrast and Galeria Plastyczna. So alongside landscapes and history, photography and visual arts are also part of the local cultural scene. The different venues and formats offer ways to enjoy your stay beyond the hiking trails.

Kino Astra adds to this program with film series such as Astra dla Seniora, Astra dzieciom, Astra Kobiet, Dokument w Astrze and Klub Filmowy Astra. The series may change. Together with the cultural center and its galleries, the cinema is another facet of cultural life in Oborniki Śląskie.
